I remember hearing something very similar to this in Florida years ago when I lived there. Want to say it was Orange County FL but might've been a different locale - apparently the cops there were using very similar tactics to seize cash under suspicion of it being "drug money" - the whole thing centered around the fact that apparently there's minuscule quantities of cocaine and other drugs on virtually all paper currency and they were using this as "evidence" or "probable cause" that the money was being used in drug trafficking. It was a long time ago (10+ years) but maybe someone else remembers that story. This Texas thing sounds eerily similar...

They really rack up on people headed up here to go to the casinos. If Texas passes gambling, it'll probably stop. hehe

Driving through Louisiana lots of folks have been busted on trumped up charges and had their property/money stolen as well.

Don't forget the guy that got drug behind the truck in Jasper, Texas several years back until he was dead because he was black.

And, I knew a guy who wanted to open a topless bar in Lake Charles, LA. He knew I bartended and wanted me to come bartend for him. I drove out one weekend for him to show me around. While I was there he told me this story. They were in the process of remodeling the building that was going to be his bar when a black guy came in and started talking to him about it. They had a long conversation where the guy said that he and his buddies would often drive to Texas to go to topless bars. He eventually asked "Are you going to charge us double?" My acquaintance asked what he was talking about. "Are you going to charge black guys double?" Apparently the other bars in the area (there were two in the area and one of them was in a trailer) charged blacks double for drinks and cover. That was around 1998 or so. I was amazed, I still am. I couldn't get out of that area fast enough. I'm a white guy, but couldn't imagine living someplace like that.

I've also heard that if you're not white, you should avoid Vidor, Texas.

This world is a whacky place and has got some whacky people in it.

Nice. I've gone to buy cars with as much as $20k in cash, that makes me think twice.

Yeah, the specific story that I remember that was told about Louisiana was that 3 Vietnamese guys were driving to New Orleans with $50k to buy a shrimp boat. They were stopped and had their car and money seized.

Yeah and look at what those scum sucking lawyers are doing about it!

"But civil rights lawyers call Tenaha's practice something else: highway robbery. The attorneys have filed a federal class-action lawsuit to stop what they contend is an unconstitutional perversion of the law's intent, aimed primarily at blacks who have done nothing wrong."

I saw that. The reporter had the cop pull money out of his own wallet and check it for residue. When it was found to be COVERED in residue, the reporter demanded the cop surrender the money.

The program stopped almost immediately after the report aired.

You know guys a road trip to take the town over and demand justice wouldn't be the worst idea.

you wonder when this country will tire of cops being above the law and rise above it.. Stay tuned it's going to get alot worse before it gets better with local budgets operating in deficits..
I"m with you Sniper, whenever you organize it buddy!!

If there were ever a case that the SCOTUS needs to hear, it's one regarding the Constitutionality of these drug "seizure" laws.
