It's been an awesome week. My team is down to only me - everyone else left for other jobs. I'm left holding the bag teaching these guys how to do our stuff.
Today they brought a system down troubleshooting something that was 'wrong' with it. With their troubleshooting (randomly changing the config around) they brought three applications that run on that system down. They can't explain how what they did would be considered 'troubleshooting'.

It's the week of all things outsourced. So far nothing major has happened so there has been no real test of their capabilities.
People keep coming to me to get things done and I have to say - please call the outsourcer. They look at me like I've got two heads and then I reiterate it.

So where does all of this leave you? What's your next move? Got something lined up? I know you've had several options here and there.

Me - well - I'm safe - for now don't know how long 'now' will last.
I have received a few phone calls on some options that I am investigating.

I agree with Legion on some of this. I think many outsourced looking for lower cost. Sometimes lower cost means lower quality too. I have seen examples of that. Add to the 45 days of inventory you need to hold (sea travel time), shipping, custom delays many have retunk this. Toyota is now looking for local sources suppliers in NA because it isn't as economical.
Tabs: I have said this in a previous post " German labor is higher than ours and they are the number 2 exporter of goods, second only to China. and it has a unionized labor force. You gotta make the stuff that others want.

You have not sounded happy there, for quite a long time now. Life is short, make yourself happy.

Took me 5 but looking back on my own evolution I can see why. I hope this works out. Interesting events here this week still - apparently two higher level folks got wind of their own pending layoffs. They confronted their managers and their layoffs were accelerated. The point is that they apparently got hold of a list, their names were on it but not the only ones. I could easily see my name being on that list. I no longer have any qualms about this. I am out.

I am fricken ecstatic to be honest. I can't remember being this excited in quite some time. I start the new gig on the 30th. It's a very different position working for a vendor whose products I am very familiar with in their presales organization.
It's a new challenge, it's technically out of IT and back into the revenue generation stream. My new boss said "I need 110%" and I said "Is that all?" fan-damn-tastic!

Not much really, he figured it out when I sent him the meeting request this afternoon.
I told him that I really enjoyed working for him, he was a good manager to work for. I appreciated that when I spoke he listened and considered what I had to say. He asked if there was anything he could do and I said 'No, this was an unexpected opportunity that I could not pass up.' I'm sure we will talk more about it in the coming 2 weeks (bastards didn't walk me out the door which is what they SHOULD DO for someone in security!) and I am looking forward to that because I want to impart upon him personally my professional feelings about our workplace and the environment of fear we work in due to the use of RIFs to boost the stock price.

Outstanding! Glad you got it and glad you're happy with it. Like I said, I know a bunch of folks in your shoes (except they've been wearing them longer). You're going to be busy, very busy.
