Exclamation Has anyone ever tried this?

So myself and a fellow pelican are building up a 77 2.7 CIS motor into a 3.8L.

We decided to retain the air injection ports in the heads and are going to rig up an ATF injection system with these. We are going to use a fuel pump to pump automatic transmission fluid directly into the hot exhaust ports when we push the smoke screen button on the dash.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think this will be legal for PCA club racing?

Should we inject ATF or power steering fluid?

True. This is a religious issue. It should be in PARF!

Just get some Super-Dri smoke oil, that's what we use at air shows, its not that much.

Last season I was running more of an external injection system where I was injecting the oil from a spray nozzle built directly into the oil cooler. It was aimed directly onto the right heat exchanger but I got black flagged because I was unable to turn this system off when I was in the pits...

Aren't ATF and power steering fluid the same thing? They are on my car...

Is this for use as a mosquito fogger in Winnipeg?

I doubt that. I recently replaced the PS pump and rack on my El Camino. The new pump had a big sticker saying the warranty would be void if ATF was used. Fresh PS fluid is clear, ATF is usually red. The GM factory workshop manual has a big warning about it as well.

They are definitely not the same thing, however Porsche uses ATF in the power steering systems of at least some of their cars, e.g. my 944. So while my 944 uses ATF as power steering fluid, actual power steering fluid is not ATF. Hope that made sense

ATF and PS fluid are not the same. Many a Toyota Land Cruiser owner has put PS fluid in the reservoir causing leaks/ruining the pump. It calls for ATF.

1998 and older Volvo's use DexronII. I guess they are the oddballs, I thought all cars used it.

It's his strategy for keeping backmarkers from passing him on the track.

Think about it.

L O L ...as if anyone who ever saw James Bond hit the smokescreen button on his Aston Martin never thought it might be a useful tool in other applications.

Is this really true:
