Speed Channel-Am I Asking Too Much????

Am I asking too much for Speed Channel to broadcast full seasons of racing series such as FIA GT from Europe, Rallying from overseas, British Touring Car, German Touring Car, Japanese Touring Car, etc, etc...there's so much more racing out there that we don't get to see, what do we get instead?, more and more NASCAR, which seems to be on EVERY channel except PBS, re-build it programs coming out the wahzoo and drag racing! Thankfully we have BBC America and are able to watch Top Gear!

I mean, come on!.....check out the clip of FIA GT preview...Porsches, Ferraris, Saleens, Maseratis, Corvettes..what more could you ask for?

http://www.grid1.tv/#browse/media_va...ide_track?id=1

If only there were investors out there to create a racing channel focused on this type of racing...I heard of such an endeavor taking place years ago, but I believe it fizzled out...

OK...I'm done with my b*tching...

Speed used to cover this stuff back when they were 'Speedvision', then NASCAR bought them. Now Speed blows chunks.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't mind the NASCAR so much because it is racing (kind of like pro wraslin is a sport) AND speed is a business and after all NASCAR is where the money is...

However, I could live without the reality TV Bullcrap programing that seems to dominate Speed Channels line up. If you randomly turn to Speed seems like you get some flavor of "pimp my ride", "pinks", blah, blah, blah...

Speedchannel is a complete waste of time....here on the Bell network they have blacked out all F1 stuff, and if I hear one more twit with an affected Southern accent drawl on about "good ol' boys" and "doin' the best ah ken out there" I will projectile hurl hard enough to destroy my TV.

What absolute crap they put on....

Speed sucks now. Feel free to write them a letter or an email, or call them; I have, several times. I have also reminded them that my disposal income is many, many times what their target audience earns and that they should inform their advertisers that I fast forward my way through their ads on the three programs I still watch.

It won't do much good but if a bunch of people do it...

I'm really going out on a limb by saying I enjoy NASCAR but not only is there too much coverage of it (NASCAR Smarts?, NASCAR in a Hurry? NASCAR Raceday) but if I see any form of Pinks, Low Rider (whatever the f it is), and last but not least, Unique Whips, I'm going to puke! I'm surprised their not covering a NASCAR guy taking a dump yet because that is the only time they don't have a camera in their face.

I love racing just as much as the other guy, but Speed's idea of variety all of these NASCAR variety shows, Lucas Oil Racing, Wrecked (who cares about a f'ing tow-truck company), and On the Edge is NOT cutting it w/me.

This seems to be a common problem with TV stations. MTV used to be just music video's, but then they started all of this other reality TV crap and realized they had no time for music, so they created MTV2.

Speed is the same way. I think they need a second channel that only shows racing. I remember they used to have F1 boat racing and airplane races. Late at night you could watch really crazy stuff like busses, lawnmower, ice racing, etc... I sure do miss those days.

What might do good is more people refusing to pay the tab for their programming.

Speed is in the business to make money, and unfortunately for some, very few people enjoy watching follow the leader type of racing.

That said, there is too much nascar. Take for instance nascar qualifying, unlike F1, it doesn't determine the outcome of the race, so why bother televising it?

When it used to be SPEEDVISION back in the late 90s it was fantastic.....I remember the overseas coverage of rallying, British & German (DTM) Touring cars, etc...I just can't believe with the money we have available to spend due to our incomes that nobody has come up with a true racing channel for us...

It does seem odd that a competing motorsport channel hasn't emerged. The only watchable things on Speed are F1 and MotoGP.

Some investor group was trying to put another channel together for more real and unique racing coverage. However, I think the economy came calling. This was 2 years ago when I first began to see a major drop off in work.

How about the Isle of Man TT/Trials motorcycling? They were facinating to watch. Also the Goodwood Festival of Speed and rallycross etc. I even miss the old reruns of F1 and historical shows you could always find when nothing else was on. I'd order that channel.

Why can't SPEED have a racing show like Wide World of Sports that traves around and show different forms of auto racing? One week DTM, one week Baja, next week F2, etc....

Actually Speed Channel is owned by Fox Sports Net a division of Fox Broadcasting.

While working a race a Auto Club Speedway formerly California Speedway, I spoke to a Speed Channel executive who happened to be in the Media Center. I asked some of these same questions and his reply was that he knew a lot of people wanted to see the broadcasting of other races but, he said the country is full of kids who want to see lowered Chevy's, unique paint jobs, $20,000 stereo's and drag races. In addition, NASCAR broadcasts make big bucks where as ALMS etc doesn't draw the big advertisers

As they say back in my home town of Boston, "It's GAAHBAGE!"...barring the ALMS and ROLEX series, it's no wonder the Europeans laugh at the racing series' here in the states....

The word was a couple of years ago that one of the NASCAR holding companies did own all or part of SPEED. NASCAR itself is just the sanctioning body. International Speedway something owns the hard assets.
