Whats The Deal with all the Trikes Out There?

Everywhere I go all is see is those high-dollar trike conversions ??? WTF? What happened to good 'ol motorcycling fun? Has it really all come down to: Are we too f*ckin lazy to actually hold the bike up when stopping or too lazy to lean into a turn? All the people I see look healthy enough....maybe too healthy.

I'm almost 50 and have been riding and around motorcycles all my life. I love it. I can remember a time when if you rode a trike it was because you were missing a limb or a hand. It was the only way to get yer face in the wind.

At this point why don't these people just buy a g*dd*mn car ? I would mention a convertible but then that might be a bit too taxing to raise or lower the top. Good grief!

I like those really cool looking new style trikes. Not sure what they're called, but ive seen a few on the road now. I'd love to get one...perhaps in a few years when most of the depreciation has already taken it's toll i'll pick one up.

I'm with you asphalt. I think the same thing when I see the majority of Harleys that now have windshields! Even some Sportsters. Back in the 70's and 80's only geezers and some weird dudes rode bagger Harleys. Ooo! Ooo! A bug hit me!

I guess I see trikes like left-handed shotguns.

Really expensive new with no resale market or value.

Well, if you can't ski very well, might as well snowboard.

I see a lot of the Gold Wing trikes around here. Real popular with the retired crowd. The are pretty expensive from what I hear. But they have to crawl around corners.

Yes they look stupid.

You know those conversions are $8-10K installed for the "nicer" ones. I actually saw a HD Lowrider where a kit was installed but was litle more than outrigger wheels as the rear wheel was still there. Like THREE wheels in the back.........................ppppppppppfffffffffff t

That Can-Am backwards trike is about as stupid as anything I've ever seen. There's quite a few of them out here, too.

Another form of expression. Lord knows we don't try to personalize our p-cars.

I don't know of many '32-34 coupe owners with built motors that actually race. They love to cruise. Think it might be the same?

Yup, I'm seeing that Can-Am trike quite often these days. There is a dealer about two miles from my house. Harley actually sells trikes right off the showroom floor these days; they have contracted with some conversion company to offer theirs exclusively.

They are not my cup of tea, but I won't begrudge anyone who wants to ride one. The more the merrier - each additional "rider" adds to our voice. I do question the safety of these things, remembering back to the days of the three wheeled ATV's that were eventually outlawed. I guess if you take it slow enough, which these guys typically do, they should be safe enough.

As far as the Harley baggers - the "geezer glides" as we used to call them - my Road King was probably the best thing that happened to my riding. Granted, I had to swallow hard when I actually found myself considering one, but it has opened up a whole new world of riding for me. My range has increased dramatically, and my wife loves to ride with me again. Any bike I ever owned before that (especially at my age) would now be strictly a solo, short range proposition. My old Ironhead Sporty and 900 SS Ducati fill those roles admirably. But, when I'm somewhere east of B.F., Wisconsin, a week's ride from home, with my wife on the back - the Road King rules.

i saw a midget on one of those a few weeks ago.
no way his feet were going to reach the ground, but he looked cool with his leather jacket and little leather chaps.
like a kid on a ride at the fair

Unless you're some lifetime biker, who's sustained some debilitating injury (motorcycle crash related, of course) that renders it unsafe/impossible to ride on two wheels, these trikes are just ghey. But whatever floats your boat.
