Met a girl in college that drove a Pinto. He father was the chief of police in a small town. He put a governor on her car so it would NOT go over 40 mph so she would stay in Stillwater and NOT go visit her boyfriend in Norman. She made the trip anyway. I found out about the 40mph limit only after I hitched a ride to OKC on one of her trips. It took forever, but it was free.

I could not imagine why anyone would put a governor to limit the speed on a car that is known to explode when rear ended!!

On the way back, we are cruising at a blistering 42mph up I-35. There was a big thump and a loss of speed as the engine reved wildly. Then I noticed a gear rolling past us from under the car. The transmission blew up!! I couldn't keep from laughing when I saw parts from the car passing us.

Seems that this is extremely rare, bit has happened a few times.....usually ends in the entire vehicle torched.....

I'm expecting LR corporate to make this right, it's a pretty significant product liability issue.

Evening Y'all.
Joe that will be an easy repair, just add a little fuel and let it finish the job.
Interesting ride home. Jessy Ventura is in the neighborhood and he called to the local radio station and yacked about some crap, I was too busy seeing red to pay attention. I called into the station and basically called the pond scum out to the DJ, because of what he did to Chris Kyle's wife, the DJ played it on the air. I am hoping Ventura heard it and decides to call back and call my bluff, this could be a fun evening, I will lose a logging boot in his old a55.

Did any of the people who lost a car to it get any money?

And how old is the vehicle? They'll probably tell you to pound sand....

No offense Joe, but how is it that every vehicle you have fails in some catastrophic way that ends in you fighting with an insurance company or threatening to sue?

That dude needed my truck. No chainsaw required.
No rebuttal thus far, and I am not really expecting one

Yes.
Young enough that spontaneous combustion is frowned upon by the nhtsa.
Because I'm stupid enough to keep buying semi-modern British vehicles....

Man, you leave for a few hours and hell breaks loose.

The apt inspector checked the smoke detectors and that was it. Literally, it took him less than 5 minutes. I replaced the batteries with new when I arrived which is good because she didn't even have one in the alarm in her bedroom. For fuchs sake, Ma!

Then I completed her list of chores she needed help with before she took me to lunch at our favorite Mexican place. It was a good day. She isn't going to be with us much longer so I don't complain about anything she needs.

More important, only ONE idiot tried to run us over on trip. Jackclown enters the 3 lane highway and just keeps coming over to the middle lane where I was. I saw him so I let off the throttle which slowed us just enough. He was alert enough that he gave me the "sorry about that" hand wave.

Taking the 911 out now for a little evening drive before we head to the PCA swap meet tomorrow.

There has been no comments from him and I doubt very seriously he will, and if he does no promises there will be enough left for your BBQ.
He called in from Appomattox, about forty miles south of me, he was at a civil war reenactment of Lee's surrender, I am sure he wants to get out of this conservative area in one piece.
His kind don't fare well here, we value our military and those who serve are respected.

I used to make good money working on those things. I have a friend who's brother is a field rep for LR and I have heard some real winners about some of the production mistakes. Like the one where the driver kept complaining the seats were getting hot but the vehicle didn't have heated seats. Actually it did and the switches were smashed under the center console and in the microwave position.
