TGIF.

Guess what, it is raining again or should I say still. Only the panhandle and parts of far northwest Oklahoma have any remaining dry conditions and that should be taken care of soon. We will be drought free then.

My wife told me this morning that after today she only has 15 days of work left until retirement. We go on vacation in three weeks. She comes back from than and works two more days and is done. Ta Da.

Oh Haha 05-29-2015 04:30 AM

Same here on bike mishaps.

Broke my collarbone jumping over a dug out pit(I didn't make it over). It was a Sunday(again)and my parents were at the grocery store. I had to wait until they got home to go to the hospital. Of course, they had to put the groceries away first.

GH85Carrera 05-29-2015 06:20 AM

My parents were dressed up to go to a social event of some sort. The were not real happy for the interruption.

Got broad sided by a car when on my 10 speed was in 9th grade. Old lady ran a stop sign. Got knocked off the bike and hit the street rolling..stopped sitting on the curb looked up and here came my bike at me so grabbed it with one hand. It was on it's wheels in front of me. Looked like I just got off my bike and sat on the curb. My friends that were riding behind me were freaked out. Said I flew through the air like superman, hit the street, rolled over once and then rolled up to up to sitting on the curb. Said my bike was flipped into the air and came down to land on it's wheels right in front of me. The bike had a small dent in the frame where the bumper hit it. I was sore but didn't have a scratch on me.

GH85Carrera 05-29-2015 07:26 AM

Ouch ouch ouch.

I just get back from the dermatologists. He zapped three spots on my face. Ouch.

He gave me the same lecture, wear sunscreen every day even on cloudy days and stay out of the sun. I told him the same thing as last year. My biggest hobby is cars. Those usually are enjoyed outdoors. Car shows and autocrosses and driving tours involve being outside. I always have on a hat when I am out in the sun. If I am going to be in the sun very long I lather up in SPF 100.

RKDinOKC 05-29-2015 07:36 AM

Off to get lazed.

When Boxster was daily driver, put on spf70 (highest spf I could find back then) every morning right after the nostinkum underarm goo.

GH85Carrera 05-29-2015 07:43 AM

With a bald head that was a smart thing!

Back in the previous millennium when I drove a convertible I drove to New Orleans from Montgomery, AL. I got ROASTED and I bough a visor in NO from a street vendor on Bourbon street and never went out without it after that.

This is what I use now.

It is not greasy.

GH85Carrera 05-29-2015 09:07 AM

Aggggh.

I am being tortured. Skeeters everywhere. Aggggjh.

flipper35 05-29-2015 10:12 AM

I get lectured every visit to my dermatologist about sunscreen hats etc. I almost always have a hat outdoors and try to use sunscreen when possible. Then again I am fair skinned with red hair so it takes about 3.7 seconds to get a sunburn.

The worst I ever did on a bicycle was a place where you came down a trail on a steep hill and I was on my BMX bike trying to clear the road that you had to cross. You could see 75 yards down the road so traffic wasn't a problem. My problem was that I got crossed up going up the ditch bank and went wide left and hit the stop sign mid-air. I had pulled some muscles on impact but no stitches required. I did wear my motorcycle helmet on that bike most days.

Storms last night (good that it rains through the middle of the night when we are sleeping) and more storms today.

Years ago, when I was young and really stupid, rather than older, grumpy and mildly stupid, I slammed a Saturn into a ferd exploder.
I got 7 staples right at the hairline of my forehead as a prize......

flipper35 05-29-2015 10:34 AM

Dude, you drove a Saturn?

GH85Carrera 05-29-2015 11:01 AM

Crap, what a waste of time and effort.

I called a local scrap yard and asked if they have a wiper motor for a 1986 El Camino. I figure if I can get one for 20 or 30 bucks and it has the cover and it looks like it is not full of water and rust it would be handy to have on hand. On the phone they said they had several. Off I go to a salvage yard with the name RIVERSIDE right in the name in fact it is their name.

I get there and they want to see my current wiper motor. OK, look and see. They ask me if I will ride with the picker to verify he get the right motor. Off we go into the muddy yard and within a few minutes of looking he says lets get in the truck. I open the door and there is no passenger seat. I have to just sit in the back jump seat. Of we go bounding through the rows of cars. He puts on galoshes and goes tromping through mud and puddles to a car and asks me to come look. Nope, I will not ruin my shoes to look. We look at car after car and none are the right motor.

The skeeters are everywhere. I killed at least a dozen. Three of the little bastages go me but I got even and killed them in the act.

After an hour of torture we gave up. No motor or cover. Three skeeter bites.

My motor is working fine even with all the rain. I just want a backup part for the NLA cover. I really don't care about the motor.

Well, looks like I have a solid buyer for the Lotus. Gonna buy something boring and cheaper and throw some cash back in savings.

You should get a nice Volvo station wagon or maybe a Minivan. As you get older sports cars like a Lotus are just not a good idea.
:p

Back and still dilated. Was only supposed to do one eye put did 800 spots in my left, and 400 in my right. Each flash of laser feels like a tiny paper cut, then aches. Doc says some people don't feel it at all. When he finished because of all the bright light flashing was black out blind for 15 minutes. Then everything looked magenta for another 15. Now just have to make it through a couple of hours of my eyeballs hurting.

Brother came by and took me to lunch. Next two weeks he is going to Colorado. Rents a cabin in the mountains. First week his daughter and her familiy with 6 kids stay with them, the next week one of his sons and his family with 6 kids stays with them. In the fall they do the same thing in a beach house in Destin Forida.

I'm kinda thinking about a VW TDI......diesel is pretty reasonably priced these days and the mileage is attractive.

RKDinOKC 05-29-2015 03:17 PM

Tried a 2004 VW passat as a dependable 4 door daily driver. The seats in the modern VW pinch the nerves in my butt. At first my feet would wake me up in the middle of the night hurting. Then driving the car for more than 30 minutes would make my feet go numb, then after that my tail bone would start hurting. Got to where driving for 5 minutes would make my pelvic bone (butt) hurt. Glad I bought it new because VW America bought it back after 2500 miles because it made my butt hurt.

Understand the actor Hugh Grant had the same experience with his brothers VW Golf. The problem is it makes your nerves very sensitive. Hugh said he had to get rid of his Aston Martin and got a Porsche because of it.

HHI944 05-29-2015 03:22 PM

Huh, hadn't heard that....

Also looking at a bit older diesel E class....they has comfurbel sittin

This may be the first dry weekend in a month. The local PCA region has a car show at Hooters tomorrow morning a free picnic in the afternoon for new members to meet the rest of us. Hopefully free food will bring out the members.

Rick V 05-30-2015 01:50 AM

Morning Y'all
Get a Volvo, an old Volvo, then you can be like my son and build some sleepers. He has a 94 940 wagon and a 78 sedan and both of those cars are decently fast, but when you are pushing 30lbs of boost ya gotta be able to get out of your own way then.
