While my nerves were aggravated from the VW I test drove every new car on the market and several nice used ones. Volvo, Porsche, and BMW-with sport seats are the only cars that did not aggrivate my pinched nerves. It's a shame there were several cars I really really liked but couldn't drive them 20 miles. There was a Audi S4 that was really nice and even had recaro seats that I had to stop and let my Mom drive. Man, that was disappointing. A lot of cars were "comfortable" initially but after driving a while they would start hurting.

Friend bought a new Kia Soul this past year. Drove it on vacation from OKC to Vegas and back. Before him and his wife got out of the state they were both sitting on pillows to keep their butts from hurting. i would have traded that Kia back in a found a car I could drive without having to sit on a pillow. He has a 944 they took on trips all the time without having to sit on pillows. And he could have fixed that 944 up better than new for what he spent on the KIA. But instead of total out of pocket expense on driving he got stuck on he would spend more than the 944 is worth to catch up on the deferred maintenance to make it super reliable again.

I had an old 86 GTI that had the factory Recaro seats, and that was the ONLY good part of that car, I should have kept them when I had that chitbox crushed

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Had a Chevy Astro that was an LTE or Luxury Touring Edition. It had some kind of special bucket seats as part of the touring package that didn't hurt to drive. Got it so I could haul my brother with MS and his electric cart around. That was the only van/mini van I could drive.

The Range Rover I had was cheap, and I only kept it as long as I did for an ice/snow vehicle and to haul Mom around on short errands. I couldn't drive it more than 30 miles without it starting to hurt my butt. The 928 got difficult for Mom to get in and out of because it is so low.

Drove the Cayenne on vacation last Nov. to Austin and on an all day Saturday tour while I was there then back and didn't have any butt concerns the whole trip. Have done the same trip in a Boxster S, 944 Turbo, and 928 GTS without any nerve issues.

Our beater Jetta has factory Recaros. Pretty comfortable seats, although I'm bummed that the lumbar support adjustment broke.

When I was searching which cars didn't hurt to drive I talked to a LOT of people and was amazed at how many people thought it was normal for their butt to hurt while driving their car on a trip. Just because they were sitting so long. Not the case.

I even searched around and found a couple of office chairs and a recliner I could sit in all day without hurting my butt. For about a year after the VW I had to be careful where I sat and usually couldn't stay seated very long.

Jim, you get the kit from the dealer to fix it and bring some steaks down for the grill and I'll fix it for ya. I know you NEED to have that repaired. Make sure to bring Lu, I like her much better then you. :D

It's funny now that you guys mention it about the bad VW seats, I remember driving my wife's Cabrio and being relieved when we finally got to our destination and I could stumble out of the car and stretch my sore tired legs......same thing with my daughter's Jetta.

I do like the leather bucket seats in my F-250 Lariat edition truck.

Believe it or not, the best seat I have for long distance driving it the one in my 86 Dodge, it's a standard bench seat, and we put 2,400k miles on it in a 2.5 day cannonball run kind of trip and I had zero issues. I guess because with all the room in that cab I can do all manner of gymnastics while driving.
The Boxster is decent but my right knee cramps up on long trips.
The factory barkoloungers from the SC SUCKED!! I replaced them with some Corrillo sport seats with the memory foam and they are awesome.
The Mercedes would be good if I was a typical American who can't say no to the triple burger platter, I just swim around in those things.

I am supposed to be heading out the door for a rather lucrative side job, but instead I have to go to a memorial service. My Sister-in-laws, Mother-in-law passed three months ago. Yeah close relation and very prudent timing.
Beth's family is very close so I just deal but it cost me a nice addition to my new spoon fund.
Okay back to your regularly scheduled randomness

Sounds like a great plan. And I also like Lu a lot better than me. :D

Stijn!!

Morning all.

The factory seats in my 911 fit me great. I have done many 12 hour days in them and felt like I could keep going but it was at the good stopping point on a trip. This year's trip is just a 800 mile trip so no big deal.

It is overcast but no stuff falling from the sky. The car show and picnic should be a go.

Rick V 05-30-2015 11:31 AM

Well that was fun
Two hours of listening to people say the same thing over and over and over, Yeah who needs cash when they have that kind of fun

nynor 05-30-2015 11:38 AM

um... she passed three months ago and the memorial is today? that seems a bit odd.

Rick V 05-30-2015 11:53 AM

And inconvenient

flipper35 05-30-2015 12:35 PM

I have taken a couple long trips in the Cobra and the seats weren't bad but they are out of a Dodge Stealth and not the OEM seats. You really have no room to move around in that car.

We went to Buffalo in Steve, our bright blue Avenger, and it was actually pretty comfortable. When I drove from CA to WI in the Durango it was OK but I had to adjust the lumbar a few times. It also helped that I had to take the dog for a short walk every gas stop.

Joe, a Geo Metro gets great mileage and you already drove a Saturn.

A good friend of mine has a Golf and loves it.

flipper35 05-30-2015 12:36 PM

The grass is really long but it keeps raining. :(

RKDinOKC 05-30-2015 12:37 PM

Got an invitation a couple of months ago to a memorial service for some extended family, a husband and wife. The husband died 5 years ago and the wife 2. Now THAT was weird.

Really liked the Passat...except for the pinched nerve pain thing.

Before VW bought it back I was considering swerving off the road into a ditch so it would roll over and total it. Then saying I swerved to aviod hitting a deer. Was afraid I might get pinned and not be able to get my helmet off. That would have been awkward to explain.

nynor 05-30-2015 01:00 PM

um.... five years down the road, i'd say thanks, but no thanks. that seems absurd to me.

Got a deal to speed up my internet connection. Did some tests with speedtest.net and found my wireless network to my laptop is really slow, 5-10mb. Supposed to have 50mb. Did the same test with my iPhone sitting in front of the laptop and get 45mb. The laptop is 5 years old.

Picked up a new 802.11ac wireless router. My old one is an 802.11n.

Hooked it up and now getting 20mb on my laptop and 53mb on my phone.

Did a wireless scan and there are 25 wireless networks in range of my laptop. There used to only be 3. I used to be able to get the full wireless speed anywhere in my house.

Went over to brothers across the alley and street behind me. He complained his AppleTV was not able to stream movies. Checked the speed where he had his AppleTV (it's across his house from the room his router is in) and he was only getting 1.5mb. Put the new router in and it only increased the speed to 3mb. Double but still not very fast. Both his router and the AppleTV are in cabinets. Taking them out of the cabinets only made .2mb difference. The computers in his office (the same room as the router) are getting 53mb.

Several years ago when I set up wireless in my nephews new house (metal framing) I had to wire in 3 wireless routers and place them in specific locations in the house to get good coverage.
