I'm not a fan of corned beef so I'll pass.

Joe, I could skip swimming, too.

I took my wife out for a few hour drive to check out Fall colors. It's not spectacular like in New England, but still, it's not too bad for the mid-Atlantic area.

Oddly, I'm actually OK at swimming. Once I started getting my form down, I got to ~1:30 100m on breaststroke.

Gotta pull a decent 500m swim out for final hiring evaluation at a potential job.

All the more for me then Jim

I used to swim a lot - mornings before work thing. It's been a while though. As a teenager, I could hold my breath the full length of an Olympic pool (and some).

Oh goodness...The last time I remember going "Swimming" was at college. When the weather was nice the campus pool was a favorite hang out for my roomie and I to pick up chicks. The tanning lounge area was bigger than the swimming and diving pools put together. We had determined that's where the hot chicks hung out all day. He was always trying to get me to wear one of his swim team speedos when we went. The result of getting very wasted before heading to the pool one day was a racing challenge. If he won 3 olympic pool lengths freestyle against me I had to change into one of his red white and blue speedos. If I won he would shut the fcuk up. Seems a bicycle as primary transportation and mowing yards all summer paid off cause Mr. "Used to be on a swim team" lost by half a pool length.

When in boy scouts I always enjoyed doing the mile swim in the lake at summer camp.

We had to do a 1000 meter swim in my scuba class. Didn't matter the time, but you had to finish it. Followed that with a 25m underwater on one breath swim, followed by a 10 minute tread! That was a killer night!

For my rescue dive class we did a 15 minute tread all of us were in a big circle passing a 10lb dumbbell around. The jackass next to me couldn't stay in one spot so I always had to swim to him to give him the weight!

I enjoy diving. I despise swimming laps!

After we retire, it makes sense for my wife and I to spend a regular amount of time swimming. The stuff Sid and Joe described would probably kill me, but I think it's a good idea to have a goal.

Morning Y'all
I used to do the lifeguard thing (got into it for picking up chicks) and the local regs required a ten min tread after a mile swim, it was a breeze. I can tread with either my hands or feet, I don't need to use both.
Now you can stay the hell away from me with that ten lbs of dead weight idea.

Back when I liven in Hawaii some older boys I knew were all big into surfing. One invited me to go with them. I borrowed a board and I followed them out to the good waves. It was about a mile off shore. I got up on the board went a few feet and fell off. The board kept going. I looked around and the other boys were all busy surfing. I had to swim a mile to shore or drown. I did have the surf helping me move but that is not easy swimming. I finally drug myself on the beach totally exhausted. One of the boys came up and asked where the board. I was clear in expressing I did not really care about the board and I had almost died. He admitted they were supposed to keep an eye on my and they took me to an advanced surfer area.

I love Halloween for the simple fact that every year I scare the ever living snot out of a bunch of people and this year is no exception. I picked up my "outfit" today and snuck up behind Beth and scared her silly, I am going to be a shadow and I am NOT staying on my property. This is what I bought.

Morphsuits are cool. I have a 'high vis' one, I wore it to work one day when the OH&S dickheads got out of control and were making us wear high vis vests whenever we went outside.

Phew.

We got the fountain in the front garden all winterized, I took down the garage AC and got that put up. Then we put the cover on the koi pond. I even get to haul the old aquarium stand my wife had when we got married that has been in the attic to work to be put on the curb the be grabbed by whosever wants it.

Phew.

Yep, twas a good day to work in the yard. We mulched up all the fallen leaves and cleared some brush from behind the shed. My son even drove the tractor without running over anything, unlike last week when he demolished a fiber flower pot.

Of course, my recip saw broke where the blade is secured right in the middle of cutting the branches. I dug up some scrap metal and made a new plate for it. I cooked up beef stew in the crotch pot whilst out in the yard.

We still have ALOT of leaves on the trees so we will have to clean up for a few more weeks. Trees are nice and all but a real PIA during fall.

Well I spent the weekend trying every option to set up my server with Directory Services AND web/ftp/mail. Still does not work with my email and ftp programs. Don't know why Apple took away the option to set different IPs on a server to different services. Instead their current server software that controls Directory Services takes over all the IPs on a box. It was a lazy programmer, stupid move on their part. There are several hacks that are supposed to work, BUT they don't.

So going to have to setup two servers. One Server to handle Directoy Services, user permissions, user device management, and backups/time machine, And another server that handles web/ftp/email that authenticates thru the Directory Server. Since I have only 100 users just one server would handle the load easily I barely see over 20% usage, but NO, I have to set it up with two boxes.

Was planning to setup my two boxes as one main and one failover. If the first crashes or has a problem it automatically shuts down and the second one takes over (there is an app for that). But no, instead I am going to have to use backup drives so if one fails I have to go in and manually set it to boot from the backup drive. Now, if I want to setup failover I will have to get two more servers!

Going to have to check into running mac os servers as virtual machines with VM ware. I can see why it is so popular in the windows world these days.
