He is on his own and based on the long range toy he has better call ahead.

TGIF folks. I guess Jeff has not come out of the bedroom yet to say howdy to us.

We got the Macan back from the clear bra place. It looks great. It goes 24 inches up the hood. All of the bumpers and rear view mirrors. They had a brand new Ferrari out front they had just finished as well. It was white also so he had his white day.

This is going to be a weird day today.

5 people submitted IT Help tickets this morning, two about their computers locking up and 3 about printers not printing.
Within about 10 minutes they updated the tickets saying they restarted the computer or printer and it works now.

We once had an administrator submit a ticket via email about the Exchange server being down.

Have had people claim they aren't receiving email after setting up a rule that put everything in their Junk Email folder.

Have also had people submit that their email wasn't working that had unplugged their computer from the network. Said their email on their iPhone worked without being plugged into the network.

Wow, tricky, restart the device. That is a radical new idea.

Years ago in the DOS 3.3 era we had a computer at work that was typical company equipment for employees, minimum cost low memory and CPU speed. The cute blonde front counter chick used it for writing invoices. It would lock up at random. The simple cure was the three finger salute control alt, delete reboot. She asked me why it kept doing that and telling her the boss bought the cheapest used computer possible for her was the truth, but not the "right" answer for her.

I told her it is a male computer, the restart is the same as sex for the computer. It just wants more. She accepted that right away and was fine. A week later she said she restarted it 10 times in a row so maybe it can work all day. The funniest thing is it did not lockup up all day. She started every day with 10 restarts. I told her she was just going to build up the stamina of the computer and soon it might take 15 or 20 restarts.

Of course the boss had a computer that was bleeding edge and cost more than all the other computers we had.

Back when I was doing all the graphic arts in the company when someone needed a new computer I got the newest biggest baddest Mac and they got my hand me down.

One day the receptionist called me very frantic and upset. She said the computer was confused and said it might blow up and was afraid to touch it. Told her to just click the restart button and it would be fine. She had gotten so upset she forgot about losing the data she hadn't saved before the error.

While I had the computer I was monkeying around and had changed the text on the default System Error that instead of saying "A system error had occured." Said "I have gotten very confused and may explode, call Richard as soon as possible." The default error came up with the text, a bomb icon, and a restart button. It had been 4 years since I had that computer.

Still makes me smile.

I remember those bomb icons. Still use the term blew up when programs crash.

Still liked the app I used to have. Called it Sexplosion. Run it and it puts up the system error, only the Restart button runs from the cursor so you can't click on it. You have to press the escape key. Made a great bird dog to tell if people were snooping around in folders in the system they weren't supposed to be in.

We decided that since it was Friday the 24th we should go home a little bit early, like 1:00 PM. Beer Thirty!

The El Camino fan switch was acting up so the contact cleaner helped but that old switch was shot. I had to dig through the records. The OEM switch was replaced 15 years ago. That replacement switch only lasted 15 years and 149,000 miles. It cost me $9.50 to replace it and about 20 minutes of taking my time to remove and replace. The only pain in the butt part was getting the screw that holds the switch in place out. A 1/4 inch socket, short extension and ratchet and tongue held to the upper left got the screw out, swap the switch and new switch installed easily. It is so nice to go to my tool box and just pick a tool to use.

The replacement switch replaced 15 years ago cost me .00006376 per mile or just over 6 cents every 1,000 miles. I am at 352,000 so if the new switch goes only 100,000 miles it will be a while, I hope.

I suspect every part on the Macan will be just a little bit more.

Cheapest part I have ever gotten from Porsche was for my Boxster. A little red plastic clip you put in the slot where the sunroof latches. It keeps the top from coming up if you have the speedster humps installed. It also turns off the interior motion detectors so you can leave to top down without the wind blowing something around in your boxster and set the alarm off. That's why I got it. It was a whole 19¢ They made me pay for it too.

Some explanation...

Haven't pressed the independent shop that has my car at all.

Decided to pull the trigger because the last time I drove it was using 1qt of oil for every tank of gas and was starting to oil foul the plugs. What it needed was the oil scraper relief holes drilled in the pistons. For some reason Porsche did not do that for some of the 928s built in 1994.

Was given an estimate of $7000 and would be a couple of months before they could start as they had just started rebuilding a 911 Turbo. Was okay with that because it would give me a chance to get the $7000 together.

They had some issues with the turbos using oil after getting the Turbo back together and it took another 2 months before they started on my 928.

About that time I started having issues with cataracts. It got bad enough that I spent a couple of months driving when I shouldn't have been. Cars in traffic got to be blobs and it was difficult to tell what color traffic lights were.

Cataract operation on right eye fixed it, but my left eye started having internal hemorrhaging problems and they couldn't do cataract surgery. After 2 operations to stop the hemorrhaging they think they have it stopped, but the eye is still slow cleaning out the blood and there is the cataract problem as well. It really messes up my vision. Even though I have a good eye, the bad eye effects most of my vision clouding and blurring up the area that my two eyes overlap. That old lady pulling just in front of me and crossing over while braking to turn was her fault, but I think I would have been more alert and been able to avoid hitting her if I would have seen her coming up beside me sooner in a good left side.

Anyway, because of the vision problems I haven't been pushing them at all to finish my 928.

Of note, taped up the damage to my Cayenne with some clear box tape and since everything works don't plan to get it fixed until my vision gets better or I get into another accident that makes it worse.

Now for the current issue with the 928.

A couple of months ago he got to the point of starting the car. It started then died. After several attempts to restart he sent the brains off to be repaired. There was and issue with the brains having a first version of the chips so they repaired them free.

This week he finally got to putting the brains back in and same issue happened only this time the half of the brain that controls the injectors smoked. Yesterday he contacted the brain guy and sent them off again.

He asked me to see if I could find someone that would loan him a known good set of brains. I called 3 different 928 shops/mechanics. Yes they had an extra set of brains. No, they would not loan them. They said after an engine has been out and back in the would not blame the brains for issues, especially if it worked fine before the engine was pulled. They did not want me to have to buy a set of brains. Said they suspect the wiring harnesses as it is easy to pinch of scrape bare pulling and replacing the engine. Said if he got in a hurry and tried to start it with a jump charger on it, it would fry the brains. One even said if my mechanic pulled the harnesses, he would repair them, or replace them if necessary. Says he runs into a lot of harness issues and has made and sold 100 wiring harnesses in the last 3 years.

My mechanic claims he has pulled 928 motors and has never had a wiring harness problem. This is after it has fried the computer the 2nd time. He is blaming the problem on the programmable chips. Nobody else has problems with the programmable chips, AND it was running fine before he pulled the motor. AND he lost one of the two of my original chips when HE put in the programmable chips so he can't put the original chips back in.

Have asked some other 928 mechanics if I pissed this guy off would they take the car and finish it. None of them wants to finish a car someone else has worked on. Said basically they would want to pull the engine and tear it down to make sure it was all done correctly.

So...Since I still can't see, just going to try to not piss off this mechanic and let him take whatever it takes to finish the car. But I bet he eventually finds an issue with the wiring harness.

Morning Y'all,
Looks like we are having a full on spring day today, 75 and sunny. I am breaking out my bow and see how much I lost over the winter.
I got a groundhog last fall at 65 yards, it was digging holes in the yard of an 80 year old lady so I took care of it.
I think I am going to get my hair cut as well, I feel like Daryl from the walking dead and closing in on Carl territory
Richard I had to do a pre-employment wiz-quiz a few years ago and the place was training a new nurse, who checked my pockets three times and made me remove my boots, I whipped it out and asked her if she wanted to hold it for me just to make sure, she got the hint and left me alone to give my sample

We supposedly do random drug screening. BUT since I have started working from home I have somehow made every supposedly random list. In the past if you missed the at work screening you had to go to the hospital and wizz for them. But back then they randomly screened everyone. We have a completely different HR department now and randomly screen randomly picked employees. So, curious to see happens. Don't know what they do if someone on the list is absent the day of the in-house wizzing.

It was kind of a stupid hassle driving in to work, wizzing, then driving back home. Especially since I have always passed. Having to drive there to wizz kind of negates the you don't have a chance to cheat thing of the surprise drug screening day.

Good Saturday morning folks.

The only wiz test I have ever had was for my physical. They were not looking for drugs, just overall health. I presume it would find drugs if there were any. There ain't gonna be anything but beer.

Today is dig more holes for plants day. And this weekend is oil and lube time for the Elky.

Nowadays they do drug screen the wizz for physicals, but it's only to determine what your doc can prescribe so as not to support abuse.
