Good arvo, mates! My over-the-weekend abuse was pulling out the dead palm tree in the back yard and planting a new one. The sailing I did the day before was sufficient to keep my morale up, given my lack of pay. This retirement gig is tough.

I bet it sucks. You also cannot change your schedule, as in you are just as retired at 2:00am as 2:00pm. I guess that gives you the flexibility to swap a toilet at 2:00am though!

We'll, if it's a real emergency, I'll do a stool-ectomy at 2AM.

Are you sure that came out the way you intended? Sounds like a commercial for Ex-Lax.

I lack the coordination. That's also why I'm not into pole dancing.
![]() We (me, wife, dog) managed to take the garage queen out for a spin. We got back before the evening traffic started to build up. Unlike that guy's 911 on the tech forum that "handles like a dump truck," the 964 still feels great. Even with the original suspension parts.

Thought the Cayenne was supposed to handle like a dump truck. It weighs enough.
Guy in the 911 forum must need springs and shocks. The rear torsion bars were shot on my 944T when I got it at 80K. The rear end would bottom out when I accelerated, thunk. Replacing them made a huge difference in the ride, even though I went with stiffer bars. When I got the 928GT it had Eibach progressive springs and it handle really well on the track, but drove around town like a tank. Not hard riding, but bumpy. The 928GTS has just heavier springs than stock but NOT progressive and it handles and feels much smother, but does not handle as well as the progressive springs on the track. For a hobby there is always navel contemplation. From all the statues it looks like Buddha has made a religion out of it.

A 911 ain’t got not Springs. Just torsion bars.

And like coil springs torsion bars can be tapered to provide progressive spring rates.
There are some coil springs where they change turns per inch to make them progressive, but they do not work nearly as well as tapered spring stock. Leaf springs are progressive by the leaf design. But suspension configurations using leaf springs don't really provide for adjustable camber and toe with suspension travel.

So Jim, did your sailing start with a hobby cat. That seemed really popular around here when in my 20's. Both that and Hang Gliding. My friends and I were in the same places but were on dirt bikes climbing the place the glider guys were jumping off of and scooting around in 10ft hydroplanes on the local regatta lake.

Oklahoma City has lake Hefner. It is a lake on top of the hill, and almost always has some wind. I have heard people come from many miles to sail on it in the regattas. I have been out there a few times over the years. Mostly in very small boats. It is a drinking water source so swimming is not allowed. It was a real hot day and for some strange reason we kept blowing over and would fall in and get wet, but we were not swimming and certainly not peeing in the water.

If I had to guess, it was either the sails were trimmed in too tight or you guys were drinking a lot.

Besides the regattas there were a lot of submarine races.
They were always at night though. There were a lot of places around the lake to park and watch from. They have since put in jogging trails and restaurants around the lake so there aren't nearly as many parking spots.
