We made it up to 72 today. I like it!

Heard they just showed a ground hog on TV news eating a slice of pizza, so it must finally be Spring!

You need to put that mask on the other end!

Wow, Glen! If Mexican food could become a high-rise building, that’s just how I’d imagine it looking. :D

It’s a nice autumn day here - 30 degC
Since the golf course can’t be my office, this is the view from my home office http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1587097761.jpg |
One tough "assignment" my wife gave me was to find a restaurant that is open, doing take out. And one that will have a meal that makes for good leftovers. So the place that has really great burgers is out since a burger makes for lousy leftovers.
One place we like is a Cajun food place and we can get three days of leftovers each from one meal. They really pile on the food. I don't know if they are doing take out, so I will start my research! I do have advanced skills for foraging and hunting - gathering food. So far I have been 100% successful since moving away from mom and dad. I have a particular set of skills honed over a lifetime, and I can find food and eat it. |
Been usng online delivery for finding places that are open for pickup/delivery.
Think Teds and Abuellos are mexican open for pickup. There is cajun but don't remember name. Door Dash, Uber Eats, and Grub Hub are the delivery outfits. Great for searching zip code area. Steve's BBQ is on the lists, ate for 3 days off some pulled pork and tater salad. Did the same with Abuellos, still have some chips and red salsa and cheese dip. |
We did Steve's last Friday. The Ted's in Edmond was not doing take out the first week of this mess.
We did Abuello's the second week. We make it a big exciting date night and she rides with me to the restaurant. I take hand sanitizer and wipe down my credit card, and my hands, put the food in the car and we head for home. A wild time in the big city on Friday night. Whooo Hooo party time. |
Morning all. We have always done a night out on Wed and Fri. So with the current mess we have tried to pick places that are local and on one of the delivery services. We did one national chain last Fri for a change and I don't think they will get any repeat orders till all this is over. The had to go get it, was told 25 min from time of order. Hour and half later she got the food.

We are trying to do only local owned companies. Local chains are OK, but I want the local companies to get my business. I have been leaving tips that are over 50%. With no drinks, even tea the totals are lower so I just add it to the total.
|
we have to. Today will involve a trip to the PO to get mail and run by the wife s office to get a few things. Then a stop for iced tea on the way home. Then back to work.

Welp, just ordered a calazone from a place havent tried before. Village Pizza.
Loved the calazone at a place called Mikies that got put out of business by a tornado. Have not found a good calazone replacement in 4 years. Mikies also had a gyros pizza, tasted great but upset our stomachs dont know why, but they had it. |
It is good, but not as good. Dang tornados.
Mikies dough was less doughy, not as yeasty and Mikies ground the ham making the flavors of ham, sausage, onion, and mushroom mix much better. Guess it sucks that worked at a pizza place in college and learned what tasted good and what didn't. Even go a couple of things added to the menu due to popular demand. Cooked stuff for myself to eat on lunch break. Waitresses would get bites and ask me to cook it for them. Then they started asking me to cook it for tickets. Then it got added to the menu. One of the things was nachos with meat on them. Nobody was putting meat on nachos before we added it to our menu. Before then it was just cheese and peppers, even at mexican restaurants. I used cheddar and mozzarella with pizza sausage and jalapenos, yum. much better than hamburger or taco meat. A local pizza place lets me buy a bag of their frozen sausage topping, and man it is great in scrambled eggs or jacking up pasta sauce for spagetti. |
there is a pizza place here that was good right up till the original owner sold. We went once after the sale but have not been back.

There is a local place here that used to put gyros meat on their lunch smorgasbord. They had to take it off dern it.
Another place had grilled tuna steak sandwiches for a month. Man they were really good while they lasted, Pearls. Most of the Del Ranchos have closed. They had great chicken fried steak sandwiches. They always seem to change or quit serving the one thing I really like. |
We had a Benvenudos here that was decent when the corporate chef was helping. Soon after it went really downhill. You know it is bad when your daughter comments how dry the alfredo sauce is. My wife is a secret shopper and turned down meals there every time and when they asked why she would tell them the food isn't worth the money she would receive for the secret shopper work even though the meal was free.
We live in the country but we have a bar and grill that is 1/2 mile down the road from us that does takeout. They have a really good prime rib sandwich. The fries are OK. |
I bet the places that have the buffets or smorgasbord type places will be slow to recover. From what I hear our governor will let restaurants re-open next month, but with 1/2 the tables and they will be 6 feet apart. No doubt when the restaurants re-open they will be really busy.
We used to go to a place that had great catfish for a lunch menu. They had been in business for decades and was on several of the TV shows like Man vs Food and others. Great catfish and good service. The couple that owned it were told by the landlord he was not going to renew the lease. They were an older couple so they decided to sell the business, and retire and they moved to Europe and retire. The new owner opened in a different location and at first had a booming business. He had the same recipes. His real issue was cleaning the place. The floors were slick with grease, and not real clean. The crowds kept getting smaller. If he spent the time to clean the place up and go back to the exact same way it was done before it would likely be OK. It went out of business. |
Catfish Barn did change the breading and tartar sauce recipe by removing jalapenos. It wasn't much taste wise and not hot at all, but just enough to make you want more. After eating an entire meal I could just start to feel it. At the new place that tiny bit of jalapeno was completely missing.
