Phew, the tire is on the wheel, the car is on the ground, and the lug bolts are torqued to spec. And specification is 118 LB Ft.

I had to dig out my biggest torque wrench and crank it down. It only goes to 140 pound feet. Put on a glove and push down HARD to get them torqued.

The flat repair was free, and my labor was free, so just the multiple trips to the dealership, and the tire store. Both are about 2.75 miles away, so no major journey. Oh and a 44 dollar adapter that was stolen from the car. The real kick is I can buy a "master set" from Porsche for just 85$ but just one adapter is 44 with the taxes. Such a bargain.

We are very lucky it was a slow leak here, and just here in town. With my impact wrench getting the old lugs off was super easy once I had the adapter. I am not sure the average strength human can get the lugs off with the little lug wrench Porsche provides. It would sure be a real challenge. With a lift, and pneumatic impact wrench, gloves and a nice heated garage is was still an effort. I can't imagine trying that on the side of a road.

Hey all, long time. Just spent two weeks traveling to onboard some new customers. Sucks. Might not be a long term career if this keeps up. Management is planning on two per week in the near future. Screw that.

Yeah travel is no fun for work

GH85Carrera 12-21-2022 09:53 AM

Years ago, before the internet, the bosses daughter would hang out at our office and use the fax machine, copier, and the free coffee supply as she was looking for a job. She did NOT want to work with her mom and dad there at the office, and her mom was a terror, nucking futz.

Anyway, she got a job with corporate McDonald's and it was going to involve a lot of airplane travel. She was super happy, and was all happy about flying. She came by a year or so later and was not happy at all with the travel. She hated all the airlines, and every airport. She at least traveled in business class, but it still sucked.

Brent, good luck with the new job.

Yeah, in the interview it was limited travel and schedule to allow for family needs. Missed the kid's Christmas concert and our anniversary, though technically I was home for our anniversary but was pooped out since that trip was hours of work and then hours of driving the night before. More travel coming in the next few months. Not sure this is where I will stay. Fortunately my wife makes a really good wage so I can stop and look elsewhere if it gets to be too much travel.

Porsche-poor 12-21-2022 10:36 AM

hope it works out for you.

David, stop the weather transfer waving! It is currently 5 degrees, -9 wind chill, and very light blowing snow. It sucks!

We have some friends that live in Kansas, and they wanted to visit their son and daughter in law in Houston. They had planned to travel today, and stop here briefly to eat lunch with us at their favorite restaurant. My wife asked it they had looked at the weather forecast. 50 MPH winds, and 5 degrees with blowing snow is not a good travel day.

So they decided to come a day early and stay here overnight after my wife offered our spare bedroom. That meant we had to move the Christmas decoration boxes out of that room into the closet in the master bedroom. Then they called and one of the couples they ate dinner with the night before called them. That lady woke up feeling bad. She had a home covid test, and she tested positive. Crap. They had just gotten to the Perry, OK exit and turned around and called their son. She said to come on down, and they will wear a mask and no hugging. They turned back around and went on to Houston. They skipped our house. They are just super happy they left yesterday and not today.

Morning. I did stop but its also here. Its currently 22 out warming to below freezing later today. We are going to a play in Seattle tomorrow and decided to get a hotel tonight a block from the show. Tomorrow before it warms up to 33 we are to have hours of freezing rain. Not a good time to drive to Seattle for sure.

Oh and its way to cold to stand outside and wave my arms to move the weather.

GH85Carrera 12-22-2022 06:07 AM

Just go wave it to the north east and blow it out back to Alaska!

Porsche-poor 12-22-2022 06:19 AM

North and East from here is Canada but they can have it back as well.

But Alaska is further NE. The Aleutians and Russia need that cold and white crap, not us!

Porsche-poor 12-22-2022 06:27 AM

I live in WA state Alaska is NW from here.

GH85Carrera 12-22-2022 06:31 AM

OOPS! Yea, North west!

It sucks to be directionaly challenged and make maps for a living!:eek::rolleyes:

Change of subject:

Our insurance company writes the policies for the house and cars for 6 month periods. I presume so they can raise the rates every 6 months not 12 months. It also means I get new insurance verification cards to carry in the car every 6 months. The new cards don't go into effect until the 15th of January, so the old cards need to remain in place. I just add the new card to the glove box in the little folders in each car.

Every few years, when I think about it, I throw out the old ones. Sometimes there is a stack of several years worth of cards. In the last 40 years I have never once showed it to anyone, but by golly I have them!

The stupid thing to top it off, the cops all have a computer that when they enter the tag number, it shows if the car has insurance as the law requires so the card is redundant, but required by law. The even dumber thing is the rate of uninsured drivers is very high, and the cops don't seem to follow the law and impound the car as they are supposed to.

Porsche-poor 12-22-2022 06:52 AM

They just went to allowing you to have a picture of the ins card and registration on your phone to show to a cop. Without handing him or her the phone.

My wife loves to knit. She made a "sweater" for Reuben, the male dachshund. She just measured his chest and figured out how to do it. He hates it. When she put is on him his form of protest is to "lock up" and he will not move. A treat will override that long enough for him to get the treat, than he becomes a statue again. So the wife and dog are having a battle of wills right now. I suspect his desire to be on her lap, under the blanket will win out soon.

Porsche-poor 12-22-2022 07:02 AM

yeah he will figure it out soon

GH85Carrera 12-23-2022 05:27 AM

We are up to 7 now. The wind is just back to a breeze and no more 50 MPH winds for now.

Still, too damn cold. It gets back to 50s next week. The roads are pretty much clear. Yesterday the TV weather showed that I-35 was super slick and icy from Guthrie to the Kansas border. No doubt it did not clear up further north, but that is Kansas and Nebraska and further north and does not matter to us.

I-35 was closed for several hours when a semi car hauler fully loaded, jack-knifed across the southbound interstate. It was not a good day to be traveling. We will be going to Enid on Sunday, but that should be normal roads by then.

GH85Carrera 12-23-2022 07:59 AM

Wow, we are up to 11!

The alarm system started notifying me with a text, email and beeping at the control panel that the north garage door batteries are low. I had to call the alarm folks and have them put the system in test mode. It will alert and start beeping if I touch the battery compartment with a tamper alert.

Since the north door is low, and the batteries were put in at the same time for the south door, I want to replace both at the same time. They take two CR 2032 batteries each. Of course I only had two in stock. So made a journey to the local Lowe's to get two more. I will order some for stock from Amazon for way less money. It is annoying to see the CVS wanted a lot more, Lowe's was reasonable, but Amazon was way less for the same brand.

GH85Carrera 12-24-2022 05:57 AM

We had a real heat wave yesterday when the sun came out. We hit 18. This morning it is already 15 so we might get to freezing point by afternoon. Have I mentioned I am ready for spring!
