Had a WRX, it was fun, fast, cheap and never died.. which I traded in for an M5 that was fun, fast, expensive and liked the shop.

2006 E90 330i - surprisingly decent in the winter with snow tires, but useless for hauling stuff...

Here's the winter ride I just picked up. 1999 Legacy Outback,214K miles and bent valves. Timing belt skipped when the camshaft seized temporarily. I've got it torn down to the heads and will be sending them out for inspection and replacement of the valves. I paid $300. I hate winter but this should make it tolerable. A beater with a heater!

Then buy another Porsche come spring!

No Subie - used to, may again
No truck - utility trailer instead
No Ducati - Honda VFR

I fail all of the "theory, if you own a 911, you _________" threads I've seen

A Subaru WRX (or Saabaru) was under review for a DD. Premium-only fuel and relatively poor gas mileage nixed it. Instead, got a Saturn Astra 5-spd. 30MPG no matter how I drive it, and lots of fun to drive despite the anemic 138HP. Corners incredibly well given the Eagle LS tires on it. I hope it holds up for the long haul ...

Reading this, I realize now that my 911 isn't nice.

The obvious solution is that you guys need to sell the boring scooby and get a beater 911.

AWD is very useful for snow...

I'd like to have ESC too.

then there are the power windows, remote door locking, auto trans., etc. -- all good for a DD and a snow car, but not possible on a beater 911.

Yep, see my sig. On my second Forester currently; first was a 2000 S in black/gray. While I don't enjoy having to use premium fuel and the fuel economy could be better, the Forester XT has to be the best all-rounder I've ever owned in terms of performance, reliability and utility. Makes a good Porsche parts hauler, too.

While I love AWD, a big part of what initially drew me to Subarus was the boxer engine. I grew up worshipping Porsches and their boxer engine. Then down the road I became interested in rally racing, and AWD kind of became required, especially with the mountain lifestyle I have lived for most of my adult life.

Do date I have owned 16 Subarus and 9 Porsches (currently own 4 Subarus and 5 Porsches). There hasn't been a single car in my driveway without a Boxer engine since 2000.

Many Porsche's, no Subies. A few Mazdas (MX-6GT, MX-5) and Toyotas (MR2-Turbo, Land Cruiser) but mostly BMW and the Stuttgart products.

S6 + 911

Cool thread.

I have a 1995 S6 Avant, one of 400 imported for the year. It has an MTM stage 1 chip, Stebro stainless exhaust and some RS2 goodies on it. Yes it's fast. And it hauls a ton of stuff. It's a very nice compliment to the '75 targa which has no heat, can't haul much of anything, but is very, very easy to parallel park in tiny places. Which is why I use the 911 around town, and the S6 for longer trips.

I'm in Vail now with the S6 (der Home Depot vagon) and the 911 is back down on the front range, so you guys will have to wait for pics, but I'll post some.

Saabaru is nice, but honestly, I miss my '97 GTI-VR6. Not nearly as fast, but directionally more stable on the highway, torquey all the time, and a perfect size
