Yes there are some similarities but I would like to put out that Dr. Ferdinand had been dead for some time when the 911 came about.

Porsche built the 924-928 because most Americans couldn't drive a rear mounted motor car. What's up don't have the balls?

That is the sexiest thing to come out of Porsche in the last 30 or so years. Simply stunning! I'd probably learn to tolerate the non-air-cooled engine though. Or maybe I'd just backdate it to a 3.6 to make it a "Proper Porsche".

Jeremy Clarkson et al will still hate it. Yawn.

They also built them to fill a market gap, which worked well and probably saved the company.

I have a 944 and a 911. I like them both. Night and day different to drive, but both great.

In the 70's US government tried to pass into law, the banning of the rear mounted motor car. It's in Excellence was expected under the development of the 928.

How do they expect us to embrace the assmobile (panamera), when it's obvious then can do so much better? viva le scwdp

I would own that. I like it. But then I think a Cayman S is a doll.

Same way they expected people to embrace the Cayenne. It's tailored to a particular niche - Porsche does not pander exclusively to the obsessive/compulsive sports car crowd anymore. They do have a company to try and keep afloat and if they have to occasionally whore out the marquee to do it, dammit that's what they're gonna' do.

Trying to recall all the slams on this board over the "retro" styling of Camaro, Challenger, Mustang, etc....
(edit) Just read the tech board...seems to me $242K is a tad steep for what is essentially a base carrera with special body & trim. BUT...I'm betting egocentrics will line up to become one of the 250.

Looks like sex and sounds even better. Will the owners be allowed into the SCWDP?

It's an incredible looking car, IMO. The price is whack but it doesn't take away from the looks and performance.

You do realize that Porsche started water-cooling all of their racing flat-sixes in the 1970s, right?

Seriously, it's time for some NEW IDEAS at Porsche. It's frankly no wonder they went bankrupt, they haven't had an exciting NEW sports car design in decades. Not since the 944/928.
Went BK? Do you have a link?

Up until the recent worldwide financial melt-down, Porsche was for several years the most profitable car maker in the world, with 911 sales being a huge part of the pie. Back in the '70s, Porsche briefly considered fazing-out the 911 and replacing it with a new line of front-engined cars. The 928 was to be the flagship and the 944 the cheaper car. This would have been one of the biggest fuch-ups in corporate history and they really would have gone BK if Peter Schutz had not come along and biotch-slapped some sense back into them. The market for new 928s was only slightly larger than the market for used ones now. I worked in the dealer system when those cars were new, it's a fact.

The 911 is widely considered by design experts to be one of the greatest industrial designs of the 20th century. (Not merely car designs). It was recently voted one of the top by some society of design professionals.

Every one is entitled to their opinions, no matter how ignorant. Facts are another thing altogether, you fail in that department when talking about matters relating to Porsches.

looks awesome. i just dont like the 370z fangs in the front grille area. i suppose they are functional, but atleast paint them black. the ducktail looks super awesome. the faux fuchs dont really do it. they may look better chrome/silver, but not really in black form. overall its a sweet car that will be bought up in no time.

Well, as soon as somebody here buys one, I hope they give us a driving report...

I'm aware of why they were built, and that's not the reason.
