How have you spent the last decade?

I know that the past year or so have really sucked for a lot of people so to combat the bad let's discuss the good of the past 10 years. I'll start with a brief overview;

During the last 10 years my wife and I have had 2 wonderful boys, the youngest has "issues" but is progressing remarkably. We had several nice vacations to Florida and South Carolina. The house has been transformed (but still needs more work) My wife and I have both changed jobs and are very happy where we are. The Porsche joined us within the last 10 years and we have had a lot of good times together.

Please keep it positive!

Happy New Year my friends!

Got into a new relationship, used house, used 82SC, and almost finished paying off my partner for his share of the company.

Also have a daughter.

With the bad, good.

I suppose it was a good decade, overall. Bought our first house, had a son, wife started her own business, my business more than doubled, traveled fairly extensively, adopted a daughter, lost some furry friends but gained another, bought and sold a number of cars, stayed reasonably healthy, went to more weddings than funerals, and possibly most important - gained some wisdom!

During the last decade, I immigrated to the USA, bought two houses, raised my net worth from zero to $0.5M, got a 911, rebuilt the engine myself, got married, had a beautiful daughter, and gained 20 lbs.

Went from being 11 to being 21, and all the ups and downs (mostly ups) that go along with it. Hell of a ride

Got divorced, re-married, had twin boys, completed undergraduate degree, 3 trips to Iraq, new job, moved to SC. All in all, it's been a pretty good decade.

Went from being 21 to 31.

Ten years ago I was a senior in college. No more summers off, no more marking the years by credit hours.

I feel like I've been in a holding pattern the past ten years. Sure, I bought a house, got married, bought two Porsches, sold two Porsches, but every year has been mostly the same with only incremental changes. I make twice as much now as I did when I got this job 9.5 years ago, but I feel like I've mastered the work and am looking for a new challenge on the job.

I do miss the chance to "start over" every year. I miss having five classes going on all with different professors and different topics and different assignments.

I told my wife I'm thinking of going back and getting my MBA.

I'm probably buying a much larger house in the next few months.

I'm hoping to start a family soon.

Built a career, changed careers, changed back to my original career.

Made a ton of money, lost a ton of money. It was a wild ride.

I was fortunate enough to have a ringside seat for the collapse of the CA dream. I watched the insane rise of speculation reach a fever pitch, then (predictably) result in the implosion of the entire economy and society. Then I left. I'm now trying to rebuild my own life into something more akin to what I really want, rather than being swept along on a tide of insanity like was the case in CA...

the '00 decade had its ups and downs like all others. I think its defining moment was 9/11/01. I think it will go down in history as the decade that either set the stage for a new style of American life or for the downward spiral and eventual disintegration of the United States as we know it. I'm not 100% sure which path we're on quite yet but I believe it will be revealed soon. We're definitely on one or the other.

The best phrase I've used to describe the '00 decade is "the future on hold". I think that's accurate and succinct.

It was exciting and interesting. I'm hoping the coming decade is still interesting, but perhaps a bit less "exciting". That word can mean both good and bad but as I get older, I find myself wishing for more and more simplicity and quiet rather than complexity, high-energy excitement and noise.

Thoreau got it right.

my cookie sheet lost most of its non-stick coating this decade, but i found with careful inspection and cleaning, along with the right lubricant in the right places, it works better than ever.

Three jobs, two more kids, same old house, new 911, new BMW, same ML 320 Benz(10 yrs old next month!) more gray hair, loss some freinds and relatives, became a paper millionaire then watched it go away. Learned more from my kids than I think they learned from me. Now just looking forward to the next decade.....

Forgot to mention that I bought and sold a motorcycle that I wish I still had... Made good money though....
Bought a 944... Losing my ass terribly and enjoying every minute of it. Joined the PCA. Started autocrossing... Went to a board meeting for my region... They elected me to be on the board.

Came into possesion of one of the most hateful VWs ever made... Its an angry little car when its running....

The real start to the next decade doesn't begin until 2011 - just as the start of the new century didn't start until 2001 - when counting we start at 1 and go to 10 not 0 to 9.
However the word 'decade' is not tied to any specific set of 10 years, so you can mark off any set of 10 years and call it a decade: 2000-2009, or 2005-2014 if you wish.
