Currently the only 100% hackable Netbook is the Dell Mini9 and Vostro.

Your Toshiba will not have WIFI, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Video out, Audio i/o or WWAN.

Hackig a Netbook is not for the faint hearted.

It will with a different wifi card. I am not saying I want to invest the time doing it, but it has been done. Rebuilding a 911 motor is not for the faint hearted either .
And yes, I could have bought a CHEAPER and easier to hack netbook, but I liked the 9h battery autonomy on the Toshiba.

I think Apple and it's stock holders are quite happy with where they are.

The 6.6% figure came from the Macbook website.

Yes, at work you did. But I was speaking of the user who buys one for their personal use.

So question to you: for your own uses, would you buy an Apple or a Dell?

Dell Mini9, huh? No hope for my Inspiron 6000 to run OSX. I ask, because ergonomically, the Inspiron is a really nice machine with a great screen.

Seems neat, if it can really replace the newspapers and magazines I get. Think it is a bit ahead of its time though, because of technological and publishing realities. We'll see....Doesn't make any sense on some level, as I actually like opening up a book, a newspaper or a magazine....but then, I used to stare at album covers and liner notes too, and I seem to buy plenty of music these days regardless.

Maybe we'll all be reading our published content online soon just like the scifi movies said we would. After all, at some point, printing a Wall Street Journal locally here in Chicago and having some fellow drop it on my driveway at 5am is a bit ridiculous if you really think about it, just as driving to a record store or video rental store has come to seem ridiculously wasteful of time, resources, etc. in this day and age when you can just press a button and have that content come to you. We're all going to look like the humans in Wall*E the way things are going....

Funny bit, BTW - all the complaining about the market share and cost issues with Apple - this from a bunch of people who buy cars from a tiny company with a tiny market share - cars that are outperformed in price and equalled in speed/capability/reliability by many a Japanese make. By people who spend extra money for antique guns and motorcycles that are outperformed by modern, less costly alternatives. By people who wonder why 99+% of the population drive such soulless little tin cans, and can't see the intangible worth of something well crafted even if it costs more.

Apple's slick marketing is a trick, as is Porsche's. But marketing can only sell pet rocks and such truck for so long. The product really has to have something to it that resonates with people if a car company or computer company is to keep its consumer glow going for a decade or more. After all, all those muscle car guys are now absolutely right - we're all driving VW's! (as are the Lamborghini and Buggati folks!)

A car is just a car, unless it has that certain something - that makes it more than the sum of its parts or the sum of its stats. I suppose we all use computers so much these days that we are starting to attach ourselves to them in the same way gearheads attach themselves to cars. I see nothing wrong with a little fanaticism now and then.....

. . .that doesn't make calls.

When it finally does make calls too, that will be dubbed; the iPad with Wings.

Dell workstation, Apple laptop.

My Dell workstations have always been durable, fast and problem free. My Dell laptop however is a piece of crap.

The 10v is 100% hackable.

Check here regularly.

You can get one today for $259.

Easier to start with 10.5 as the most current Snow Leopard update omits Atom chip compatibility. You can get it back with a bit more work.

I will stick with print for magazines and books that I want to keep. Stuff that I read and then discard, I'm quite receptive to reading electronically.

At work, I used to get a six inch stack of reports each day. Now I get the equivalent of two feet, via email. The latter is more useful.
