+1 on the helicopter... for all the good guys who are alive today (and will be tomorrow) because of what they can do, have done, (and will continue to do) under the most hostile conditions imaginable.
All the rest come in a distant second, but I gotta vote for HVAC, the refrigerator, and the internal combustion engine... especially 12-cylinder Italian engines.
