I didn't have enough bondo and

the dealer wanted too much to fix my Daily driver so I found a wood shop that does some pretty nice work. What do you think?

Being in Calif., does the car now have to be bi-annually tented as well as smogged? And, isn't that solution counter-tree hugger? He would have to carry a certificate showing the wood wasn't culled from new growth to appease his hippie critics...Man, this opens a whole can o' worms.

My Parents had a 1977 Ford LTD Station Wagon (aka, the Devastation Wagon). SOMETHING about those model year wagons had a bumper attachment problem. There were a lot of replacement, rounded edge, pressure treated, 6x6 bumpers.

I'm trying to remember which state, maybe NJ or Delaware, you could not have any visable rust at the time of inspection. Everyone just covered the rust with duct tap.

Believe it or not but our taxi drivers used to replace their bumpers with rail way track.
They weren't just cut to the right size and bolted to the car.
They actually shaped the rail way track to the shape of the car and wrapped them around the corners as well.

A well done one looked almost stock once painted the same colour as the car.
But this was back in the 70s when most of our cars had steel chrome bumpers.

Guess what... It became illegal to do this but it took about 5 years for that to happen.
I wish I had a picture to post.

I like the duct tape routine... Cheap rust repair

Wait -- that's just the form -- tonight he will pour the cement rear bumper.... Imagine someone rear-ending him when it's all done?!

Yeah - weight is the enemy of efficiency, but hey, with all the batteries in a Prius, the car weight like 15,000 lbs. So what's another 1,000 lbs for the bumper?!?

I'm a wood butcher and I see some significant work there making compound curves and miters as well as the scribing to the sides.
