Park in a single space. It sounds like you are NOT a pretentious snob, but everytime I see someone parked taking up more than one space, the concept of a pretentious snob immediately comes to mind.

At my work, a bunch of us park together at the end of a couple of rows. We all drive trucks and SUV's, yet prefer not to have even our lowly (non-Mercedes Benz cars) riddled with door dings. So we protect each other and all is well. No one takes up more than one spot.

Like said before, taking up more than one spot in a parking lot is self-defeating. It draws attention to one's car, which I assume is the exact opposite of what you seek to accomplish. Flying under the radar is the best way to keep your stuff from being messed with.

That note, though a bit pretentious in itself, was a warning to you. It may require you to eat a bit of humble pie, but changing your parking habits may be the best way to deal with that, and any potential future car-related issues. That, and you can always bash in the tail-lights of every American brand car in the parking lot to get your aggressions out.

What details / particulars would determine your actions?
The last thing I would want to do in this instance is to create a situation which could affect you professionally. This is your place or employment, so I wouldn't want to create waves in the wrong direction that could jeopardize your job.

I never use to spots personally. Like others who have suggested, I always park in the back and against, close as possible to an island. But.....I never would ever have a problem with anyone else parking double, just as long as it’s in the back of a lot with plenty of spaces left. I think that if someone does have a problem with it, there are other issues aside from using an extra spot. Again, in the back, plenty of spaces? not a problem sir.

The argument of "What if everyone did this?" Please.....3/4 of the population park as close as possible to the door, so as not to have to haul their asses another 5-10 steps more than necessary in 95deg heat.

Again, plenty of spaces left and in the back....park as you please. Shouldn't concern or be anybody else’s business. Maybe a lot attendant or business owner. But nobody else’s.

The individual who left the note on your car obviously has issues aside from how you want to park your car. They left this note to threaten you, not to "enlighten" you on parking etiquette. You are happy about your new MB, and want to take care of it (I applaud you). And that burns this other fool up. It’s not about the parking space, it’s actually about his need to have you alter your behavior for his own satisfaction. I say don't give it to him.

Does your parking lot have surveillance cameras? If so, I suggested checking to see if they cover the area where you park and inquire with the grounds security to see they are working. Maybe you should mention this incident to them. IF there are no cameras, then you might have to think about this a little. You must have proof in case this creep decides to vandalize your car.

And I like the idea of leaving a return note. But I would be a little less polite.

Think of it this way. How would you have reacted if you came to your car to find someone in the act of leaving a note like that? I would not have been too happy.

Taking 2 spots is really lame, taking 2 spots in a $349/month C commuter is uber lame.

It also really is a bad habit that will end up being counterproductive, eventually.

sheesh. . .isn't that the sad truth!? It's as if others are offended that we chose to drive something other than a Dixie-cup car.

In this case taking up two spaces harms no one. The "What if" question is just a way to get additional prospective to the real question, "Is it okay..."

Agreed. In this case (back of lot, plenty of spaces left) taking two spaces does not harm or inconvenience anybody else. Does it affect them, adversely? Oddly, it does seem too. So much so, that this particular person felt the need to do something about it. In spite of the fact that it was none of their concern or business!

I usually don't post much in the OT forum, but this one really gets to me. This person has made a conscious decision to mess with Stuart993's car. One should never mess with another's family, money, home, car. Ever.

Stuart993, it may be wise to not try to escalate this situation, considering the fact that it is at your place of employment, and any following action may result in damage to your new car. But then again, this person’s actions may not be too far off from a degree of harassment, if it continues.

Do you think it would be possible or not too difficult to find out who they are? I know I would.

Thanks Chrisf.
I won't be escalating the matter, hopefully it will die a quiet death.
As for finding out "Who", there's not much chance, like I said earlier a few hundred people occupied this building, but I'll be keeping my eyes and ears open.
Thanks again

I just reread the original letter. The author stated that "you must be new around here"
I would take this to mean that they do frequent the lot.

He/she talks about equality and fairness? And charity? And then they suggest professional help (ASAP?) for physical reasons for the manner in which you parked? Their thought process seems a little dissociative to me.

But...."In the meantime, stay between the lines." I would take that as threatening.

Is it possible you know this person, and they are playing a prank on you?

I'm not "new around here", well only if 2 years is new.

Equality and fairness and charity, that got me also, I just think they were trying to appear smart.

"In the meantime, stay between the lines." I also took this as a threat. Something may come up in the future, if it does they'll be extremely sorry.

I pretty sure this isn't a prank, that why I've moved the car.

First thing I notice is you are set up for a quick egress. Did you leave the engine running? Where you making a "withdrawl"?

I agree, and there may be another driver that does not want door dings. He will want to park in the boonies as well. He will need a spot.

Park between the lines at the far end of the lot.

This is how it's done.

Been doing the same forever. Although, I don't necessarily seek one out that's as far out as possible (admittedly, it's usually the opposite). If the spaces are a bit tight, I'll crack the door so I can see the curb and literally get as close to it as possible.
