Blah!
If you're going that route, you may as well get something good. GM Performance 19211710 GM Performance Parts 427 LS7 Engine GM Performance, using valuable data gleaned from the factory-sponsored Corvette C5R racing program, developed the LS7 with many competition-derived components and design features. It takes production small block performance to an unprecedented level while demonstrating the continuing adaptability of the engine's compact cam-in-block design. It is, quite simply, the largest, most powerful production small block V8 GM has ever produced. Each engine assembled by hand by a single specially-trained builder. Specifications # 505 horsepower @ 6200 RPM # 475 ft/lbs of torque @ 4800 RPM # 7000 RPM redline # 11:1 compression ratio # Unique engine block with larger 4.125" bores and pressed-in cylinder liners # Forged steel crankshaft with 4.000" stroke # Titanium connecting rods # Cast aluminum flat top pistons # CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads with titanium intake valves and sodium-filled exhaust valves # Dry sump oiling system (does not include lines or tank) # Camshaft with .591" lift # Hydroformed exhaust headers with unique quad flow collector flanges # Intake manifold with injectors (injector wiring harness) # Fuel rails # Throttle body # Exhaust manifolds # Flywheel and clutch # Harmonic damper # Water pump and pulley # Coil packs, spark plugs, and wires # Engine sensors # Engine processor, air filter/air box, and accessory drive NOT included

11:1 compression ratio?
What octane gas does it use? |

Lessee...$14,500 for the Government Motors engine vs. $7 K for the Ford? Apples & oranges, money wise...
But if you believe there is no replacement for displacement backed by cubic dollars, I'll take that 550 horse chevvy and raise you... http://www.fordracingparts.com/crateengine/main.asp

11:1 is not high.
A new 987S has a 12.5:1 compression ratio.

Yep, computer management systems allow for some pretty high compression ratios these days...even for use with pump gas.

Image what you could do to the 5.0L with the 8k difference to the 427. Anyways It's all aluminum, and twin cams... Goodies would definitely be cheaper then to the 928 5.0L

Is it just me, or is doing donuts the biggest waste of time/fuel/tires since the Chevy Vega?

Cubic dollars win it all. Look at the F-1 engine.
