![]() I hope I never forget the stupid things I did. Some were the best fun and some lent some education to not do that again. But, I guess I've been lucky, no arrests, no accidents due to drinking. But then I'm the kinda guy that wouldn't bungee jump if I'd been on an all nighter and the ones tempting me were excellent looking nude female bungee jumpers. |

Try not, Do or Do not
|
I picked up an addiction while traveling a racing circuit and that cost me a career.
Spent the next ten years trying to get clean and sober. Lost friends, family and even quit flying because you can't fly and drink. Landed in the hospital with addition related issues. They had a rehab facility and when I was healthy enough I checked in. AA was the structure they used. I reluctantly attended AA for the next year, with no relapse. Spent the next two years returning the favor to other drunks in AA. I have been clean and sober for 19 years, 9 months, 1 day. I go back every year to the rehab facility to pick up a chip and encourage others to stay long enough to be comfortable being sober. That is the goal of AA. Helping people get comfortable being sober. It's not a cult that ensnared it victims, it's not a club to join and it's not a business that profits from your success. It's just a bunch of men and women who have followed a path to sobriety and offer what they learned as a way for them and others to stay sober. Like Todd said "It's a tool". A dry drunk is simply a drinker who quit and is uncomfortable in their own skin. Regaining that comfort by whatever means possible is the goal. The person who suggests you might be a dry drunk might just be offering a perspective that you may not be aware of. Good luck to anyone who struggles with addition and others who have won the struggle might have a perspective worth listening to.

No problem. Cmon in and have a cup of coffee and lets talk about your Porsche addiction...
As for drugs/alcohol, congrats to every one of you that have quit a day, a week, a month, a year, or a lifetime. For those who have tried, try again. For those that are wondering if they have a problem, if you are wondering then you could probably use some help. If not now then you aren't far off. Think of it like an acorn. The longer you let that sucker grow, the harder it is to pull out of the ground. Talk to a friend who's been there.
