Used to not like the Woods Bros. When Tiny Lund won at 63 Daytona, I was puling for Jr Johnson. But it was good Lund won, he pulled Woods' #21 driver M Panch out from a wreck in Rolex practice. They gave him the ride & he won because he drafted, saved gas, & made 1 less pit stop. They had Pearson in later years. He was an excellent driver & I hated it when he outrun the Chevys. The Woods Bros are very thorough & had a reputation as one of Nascars best pit crews years ago. Ford got them to pit Jim Clark when he first won Indianapolis in that mid engine Lotus Ford. I'm glad to see the Woods Bros, one of the old bunch win again. nascar racing used to be good.

Why? I finished what I started? It's still silly racing. Wood Brothers had not won since 76'. Rooting for the team not the concept.

I like NASCAR, but don't watch every race or the entire race each time. It was interesting to watch the two car draft, who partnered with who and how it worked. When I lived in Charlotte, we used to go to the races at the Speedway. Always lots of fun.
IIRC, the Woods Bros driver was driving his 2nd Cup race (and he's the youngest winner now) and it was the Woods Bros first win in 10 years. |

I know this, a push rod motor that turns 9600 RPM for 3 hours is an awesome piece. Standing next to one of these (restrictor plate or not) in the garage makes the ground move. You don't make the show unless you are very good at building, tuning, setting up and driving which takes up to 100 people per team nowadays and a hundred million. That ain't no wrestling show. Congrats to Trevor Bayne and the Wood Bros. |

Congrats to Trevor on taking the boys behind the Wood's shed. I'll probably watch Bristol and Talladega this season, maybe the 2nd race at Daytona. I don't like what they are doing in Nascar, the restrictor plate change was the straw that broke the camel's back.
They're building a track 10 miles away from where I live, and it's believed that F1 cars are going to run there next year. I'm optimistic that F1 might be able to shed it's skin to no longer be the most boring style of racing, ever.

I think this was the first NASCAR watch I tried to watch from start to finish. It was very riveting. I'm glad I wasn't a driver in that mess though!!
The place I was watching, fourcautions before it was over, said they'd give free track time to whoever picked the winner, and went around getting our picks. I wasn't sure he could do it - but T-Bayne impressed me by backing out everytime it got dicey - saving his car and keeping a wreck from being possible. Smart kid - if he chose to not give it up at the end - he'd have fast unwrecked wheels under him. I was the only guy to pick him. (The rest of the people where split between Stewart, Martin, Kurt B., and D.E. Jr)

This Daytona race reminded me of those figure 8 Demolition Derbys that have 2 cars chained together. Actually I think those Demo Derbys were more fun to watch on TV. NASCAR is ridiculous. And those caution flags... I have seen cars spin without hitting anything (=no debris on the track) and wind up 100 yards off the track on the grass and they throw a yellow flag that lasts for 5 laps. I guess if you are drunk by 10 AM on Sunday mornings , NASCAR is interesting.
F1 isnt much better actually. ALMS is the best racing series around these days ! |

Nascar is not my favorite but it is car racing so I watch out of the corner of my eye. It's certainly not as stupid as WWF. While F1 is more expensive it still seems to be theatre. I'm just as happy watching Pcar Club race.
