From the reports it was an MH-60...the picture, which appears to be the rear stabilator section, is consistent with that.

There are some incongruities, but wrecks of this nature always rearrange the parts.

I imagine Brown was an appropiate color after what went on in those walls!

Definitely an MH-60 tail section. You can see the tail rotor driveshaft going to the right over the top of the wall...couplings still intact.

Mechanical failure and they landed it then blew it up before leaving.

Probably why bits of kit are strewn about like that.

Does not matter how old or new the critter is when this happens.

i wonder how they could get so close to the compound without being detected on the way in. we have news copters flying over the house from time to time and its noticable.

on these delta force/seal team helos there is a button in the cockpit, that when pushed...................puts them into "secret squirrel" mode and nobody can hear them and suddenly all identifying numbers/letters become invisible and the fuselage turns black.

the "official" explanation of the helo going down was overnight temps remained high and when helo pilot put it into a hover to allow seal team to rapid descend ropes, helo pilot lost "lift" due to air density.

now if ya believe that, well you'll probably believe the "secret squirrel mode" button in the cockpit story.

Terrain masking also masks sound.

the best explanation since you can bet yer azz they were not yer run of the mill helos..............aka they were "hot rodded" to hell and every last nut bolt was torqued loctited safety wired within an inch of their lives before the mission, helo pilot probably to get seals "fast roping " hop sing mo-fo dropped helo too low and tail rotor impacted wall or building or tree and and it went in.

one of the WORST things and the first to go with NVG(night vision) IS DEPTH PERCEPTION! and that sucks royally.

That was my first thought at well. The "expedited" approaches I've seen with those things involve extreme landing flares. The same maneuver may have been attempted in that very short/shallow LZ (WRT obstacles).

Also, after seeing the (other) pics of the tail section floating around, that was clearly not your "run of the mill" Blackhawk either.
