anyone heard of switching blood types
Has anyone heard of switching blood types, say from O- to O+. How common is it? Am I using the right term by saying the blood type changed?

I have only heard of that after a organ transplant.

I have, only the charge, - or +, transplants and tragic experiences, but from a to b or o ? Remember labs make mistakes sometimes.
Talking about changes, i knew a girl in college who's eyes went from brown to grey after her long term boy friend died.

Only thing I've ever heard of is the Rh factor with pregnant moms, where the Dad is + and the Mom is - or something like that.

I'm pretty sure that if you attempted to change the rh of your blood from negative to positive by a transfusion, your immune response would destroy all the transfused blood cells by not recognizing them as "self"

Arent the cells created in the bone marrow? And if so, what about a major bone marrow transplant?

I've never heard of it happening. Your blood type is in your genes.
Incidentally... Some of the guys in the Army had their blood type tattooed to the forearm. (I was a Medic) The Doctor told me it was a complete waste of time because they would never assume that the blood type shown was correct. It was standard practice to always test the casualties blood before giving a transfusion.

You can get a new blood type after a bone marrow transplant.
Being exposed to Rh+ blood can create antibodies against Rh, but it won't change your blood type.

There are two blood banks in Oregon that I have donated to. They both insist they have a correct typing. The disagree! One thinks I am a + and one thinks I am a -.
Neither will listen to me. Makes me wonder if I am doing harm by donating? Larry |

The Doctor told me it was a complete waste of time because they would never assume that the blood type shown was correct. So, no point in labeling my motorcycle helmet with my blood type? I currently have my wife's cellphone number written there - just so they can notify her promptly . . .

I'm A- which is also uncommon. Unless I switched in the last few months...

what I know so far....
My daughter was born yesterday, her blood type is O-, the Doc says if you look far enough down the DNA(?) she will switch to O+ at some time. One nurse says she's only seen it once in twenty years .... Now me, in high school I gave blood and thought I was O-, when I joined the military my records said O-, until a few years ago it was crossed out and corrected to O+, we thought there was a mistake that it had said O-. There saying mine most likely switched like hers will. The Doc mentioned that it is passed along.
