I cannot answer the question without more data.

It takes years to get to Mars, and I need to see pics of the young women who will be sharing the spacecraft with me.

I'm in the no go camp.

Two years each way in zero gravity? You would be a jellyfish IF you got back.

And the odds are you won't make it back alive.

I guess it is a mount Everest thing... while Shumi sees it as the "greatest accomplishment of mankind"

Me... not so much.

Doing away with hunger and disease on this planet... now that would be an accomplishment.

I think the whole specter of space travel would wear off for me in too short of a time. But, I'll throw a twist into the percentage question: I'd take a big chance to just get into space like John Glenn. If you told me a few orbits would be 50/50, I'd go.

If you can't talk about it or be useful after the fact, 50/50 isn't a good set of odds. You guys that would take this on with a 10% chance of getting back are not going to get much for your death.

The chances of my going are 100% regardless of the chances of either getting all the way there in the first place, or returning.

Me too. But let's say you have a time machine... Now we're talking. I can travel back in time to see the Roman empire, the building of the Pyramids, the battle of Thermopylae, Gettysburg, England during the reign of the Tudors, my dad landing at Guadalcanal...

I would accept HUGE risk to see those things. Mars? Not interested.
