This is something that I have been doing since I got my first Porsche, (1972). When ever I get home, pull the Porsche in the garage, I lift the engine lid. I figure that letting the heat out will keep everything "happy". I leave the garage door open and sometimes put a fan on the engine itself. Am I the only one or are others like me out there?

On a hot day or after a long drive I'll pop the lid.

Sometimes I do that with my 928 to heat the garage a little in the wintertime. Makes an evening smoke less uncomfortable.

In the spring/summer months at AX, yes lid comes up as internal temps get up there.
Sometimes after a long drive during the hottest parts of summer.

I used to do that in the summer, on especially hot days after a spirited drive. I would always check the engine over and be sure nothing was broken, etc... and let the heat escape. I noticed that it cooled down quite a bit after I swapped out the CIS for Webers.

My 951 had an electric water pump. It would continue to circulate coolant after shutting off the engine, so I didn't worry...

Apparently the thing to do while driving across hot desert in your 356 was to put a oil can to prop the engine lid open a tad...

At the track, I did it after every run. At home, I just drove easy for 5-10 minutes for the turbo to cool down.

914's have a mesh engine lid and mine has no engine compartment tin.
I open it to work on it ( after every run ) ![]() KT

I open my decklid (no fan though) when I drive on really hot days ( 100 plus ) is it like shock cooling in an airplane? I didn't even think about that!
