RIP Derek Ho.....

After reportedly suffering a heart attack on Friday afternoon, North Shore icon Derek Ho passed away at 55 years old.

Ho was Hawaii’s first world champion, a 4-time Triple Crown champ, and a 2-time Pipeline Master. Surfing achievements don’t come any more prestigious than that. In addition to such incredible achievements, Ho will be remembered for much more than his success in a jersey. He’ll be remembered for his big smile, his infectious energy, his colorful stories, his mentoring of multiple generations, and maybe most importantly, his prowess at Pipeline for more than three decades.

Been getting some good surf here lately from the hurricanes.......this is from today - not me but a friend. We're pretty much all friends here...lol....

Same day here at the inlet taken by the same photographer. No one knows who this guy is. Really nice timing on the photo and perfect positioning by the unknown surfer......

Amen to that, Bill.

The photographer is a long time area surfer and former Juniors winner of the East Coast championships here when he was a teen back in the 60's.

He's also an artist and musician - very accomplished at both.

Here's a pic I took of him in 1979 when we were all riding twin fins......this taken the same place as the ones I posted that he took - at our main surf spot - the inlet......
