Nice pic's Baz. The ones a bit earlier sure had a fast shutter speed. All credit to both photog's. As we know it's so hard to get a good surfing photo.

Amen to that, Bill.

The photographer is a long time area surfer and former Juniors winner of the East Coast championships here when he was a teen back in the 60's.

He's also an artist and musician - very accomplished at both.

Here's a pic I took of him in 1979 when we were all riding twin fins......this taken the same place as the ones I posted that he took - at our main surf spot - the inlet......

Great pics there, Bill!

Thanks.

There is a bit more impressive stuff but it's on VHS, so I've put that in the too hard bin.

Just ran across this cool vid of footage from Five Summer Stories with Jack Johnson soundtrack......lots of The Master (Pez)......and that late takeoff by Rory Russell in the beginning is sick!

Was looking at some real estate listings here and saw this house with a Lightning Bolt board as decoration. The "holders" are hands made out of wood. I have a pair myself but haven't used them yet.

Nice backyard! And bamboo fencing/gates like mine! Love the single story home too.

Thanks Baz.

These guys are so modest. Muscling their way out through do or die sized waves. Also I've never really noticed Gerry Lopez's style. He has his feet really close together and a very upwards sort of stance. But makes it look easy LOL

I had the honour of seeing Bobby Owens compete in a Pipemasters in the the early 80's. A really neat guy.

Thanks and you're welcome, Bill! SmileWavy

Pez is "The Master"!

Reminds me of a cat the way he's so sure footed and limp in the eye. ;)

Bobby and his family lived in Daytona Beach when he was young and we surfed with them here quite a bit so this is a place he calls home. Agree....good guy!

Little by little our sports industries are becoming too political for my liking.

The G-men came by today (garbage men) and as always a bit of chat while they are here and the one guy has been amped up on the NBA finals and I told him today I no longer watch pro basketball....nor baseball...and very little football any more because it's gotten too political and ruined it.

Now today I hear Surfer Magazine is endorsing one of the presidential candidates on their Instagram Page.

I understand politics is something a lot of people like to get into and that's perfectly fine but crikey who thought it'd be a good idea to let that crap permeate into sports is a dumb****, IMHO. We're running out of places to vsist where that stuff isn't crammed down our freaking throats!

"Five Summer Stories" was a revolutionary and innovative film with a fantastic soundtrack!

Here's a cool pic and caption Corky Carroll posted on his FB page:

"Photo from the filming of 5 Summer Stories, me getting mic taped on my chest for Pipeline with sound sequence by Bud Browne, it went on easier than it came off... 1969 or '70 I am pretty sure."

The local news announced yesterday Surfer Mag. has gone out of business. Kind of sad.

Love this thread!!!!

I spent my childhood in and under the water but never tried surfing

Now the wrong side of 50 I plan to take a month off in the next few years with the sole purpose of learning to surf

Found my perfect wave just north of Manzanillo, on the southern Caribbean side of Costa Rica

The only worry I have is I may not want to leave there

The other thread on Bruce Brown prompted me to post this nice piece on Bill Delaney, whom we lost last year. His "Free Ride" in 1977 was indeed the last great surf film, IMHO.

Mike Tanner at Sandy Beach, P.R. - photo by a friend of mine who used to go to PR every year.

Mike was a local here and my college roommate for one year back in the 70's. This photo I'm guessing is somewhere in the mid 70's.

Mike ended up moving to N.J. where he had family and worked in their industry up there. He passed away last year of unknown reasons, last I heard. Was in his 60's like me. Very sad - wish I could have seen him again.
