I've been on the technical and racing forums for years, but the Dog Thread brought me over and I found this "Surfing thread? I thought I'd post a few from my Costa Rica surf trip in January.
The view from my hotel room patio at Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica :D The photos are deceiving. It was a little overhead that morning...And FAST! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1350356648.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1350356667.jpg The Girls at the hotel Bar... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1350356734.jpg Some VERY Agro locals... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1350356915.jpg Searching for unknown breaks... |
Heading down to Puerto Vallarta again. Adults only trip, with 5 couples. I am the only one bringing a board.
I think having it will definitely help support liver health. Going to be surfing north of Punta Mita. Forecast right now is 4-5 with 87 degree water. Heaven. |
Thanks to storm Sandy, just watched a CNN clip showing a few happy surfers in Lake Erie.

Winter's coming, and our focus turns to Snow Surfing ..
The first snow came a week ago, so I put on the snowshoes and got to work: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351612657.jpg This may have been the first North Tahoe track for 2012: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351612893.jpg The snow was settled and much faster the next day: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1351613019.jpg Life is good :) ________________ |
^^^ Nice - nothing like the feeling of the season first run.
Back to the water: Any fresh water surfer's? So today in Chicago along the lakefront, Sandy's to bring in 18 - 23 footers. Indiana 27 footers. |
Man do I want to see some pics of the big ones in the lakes.
Geary, now I get it about your moving from the islands, nice first track! I'm really stoked to see some of the skiing/ boarding pics as the winter fun takes over. Cheers Richard |
Speaking of surfing, has anyone been following the number of Great White attacks and sightings along California? And off of Cape Cod?

We've had Santa Anas the past week or so but I didn't get into the surf. I did get wet however. Last Wed I did lessons on an RS Vision. As luck would have it, the winds were a solid 10-15 knots, gusting over 20 knots. Whitecaps in the marina. My instructor said, "well, if you can learn under these conditions, you'll be fine." Normally we would do capsize drills as part of the training. As it turns out, we didn't need to try very hard - capsized 3x, one of those the boat turtled. Recovered quickly, and we headed back to the dock haflway through to reef the sails. Hopefully will finish certification tomorrow under less crazy conditions...

Am now certified on the RS Vision, and in fact we went outside the breakwater with the boy (and instructor) on Saturday. I'm freakin' sore...will get pics at some point but it is a fun boat.
