Impersonating a General
At work, an individual filed a complaint against a couple of my guys. When providing his information, he identified himself as a retired Army General. I completed the investigation, but during my interviews with the "General", there seemed something amiss. I could not put my finger on it and his cover story was convincing. He is attempting to garner special privileges based upon his prior position. I told him regardless of his position, I was conducting an objective and unbiased investigation.
However, the detective in me told me something was not quite right. I did a little sleuthing and found the complainant had been previously arrested by the feds for impersonating a military officer! I am in the process of gathering the reports and information, which is very difficult across agencies. In a few days, I am going to have all my evidence to let justice prevail. I am embarrassed and ashamed that this guy would attempt to do this!!! I cannot provide additional info, but I'll follow up with a little bit more once I finish, David

I was taught in basic training low those many moons ago that civilians outranked us. We were there to serve, not be served. It's sad when you hear about it. Flag officers get so many perks on base, I guess a few feel some sense of entitlement beyond the military. He must have been in supply...

Isn't it illegal to impersonate a military officer?

As an Army brat, whenever we got caught doing something or being somewhere we weren't supposed to be, we'd always claim our father was a General.
But then thats probably why my dad never made General.

We had a Set Medic on one of our action TV shows a few years ago. She claimed to be a Navy combat corpsman (corpseman) with live and death combat experience. We relied on her to be there for possible injuries during stunt sequences. She told some else on another show she had been an Army Medic. Checking into it, we found she was neither. She doesn't work on our shows any more. It really ticks me off when not only does someone claim they were are a vet, but we relied on that experience for possible emergency first aid. On the big stunt scenes, we usually have paramedics/EMTs with an ambulance standing by, but it still ticked me off.

I work with a guy who is pretty well known in the civil war re-enactment arena for playing General U.S. Grant. Super cool guy. He's been in just about every movie about the Civil War and is a walking talking encyclopedia of American history. He also looks just like General U.S. Grant.

"Stolen Valor" is a serious crime. Impersonators are arrested and charged with a felony. The law went into effect during the Bush administration.
A lot of people use this false claim for benefit of all sorts. The worse are the fake SEALs. Check out Don Shipley's "Stolen Valor" on youtube. |

The Stolen Valor Act was deemed unconstitutional recently. Here's the link.
