Good for you.

I'm tracking my calories and my activity pretty carefully. I eat about 1800 cal/day and burn whatever a 185 lb man burns plus my bicycle commute which supposedly burns >300 cal. So on paper I should be losing, but I am not.

I need to either eat less or burn more . . .

I've cut back on beer, this is #1 priority. No more six-pack-a-night. Now it's one or two an evening. Light beers.

Portion control is #2. I had a problem, I like to cook food but I hate keeping leftovers or eating reheated food so I would cook a giant pan of food and eat all of it. I've since switched to breaking up things so that I cook smaller amounts and thus eat smaller amounts.

Are you sure you're not turning fat into muscle, zero sum?

Ramathorn 05-09-2012 01:10 PM

doing cardio is not going to turn fat into muscle. if you are continually doing the same diet and the same exercise for any extended period of time the reason you are plateauing is simple, your body is getting used to your routine. your body is learning what you put in and is actually storing it for the anticipated calories you are going to burn. you are right in your theroy you either need to burn more or eat less if you are eating roughly 1800 a day now i would suggest BURNING more.

262 yesterday morning, down 2lbs. the significant other has been away for the last 4 days. Hmm...

Mossguy and ramathorn -

My legs are getting more ripped and distinctly bigger, but there is a definite and stubborn belly fat layer.

Yes, I need to step up the working out.

Ramathorn 05-10-2012 06:08 AM

If youre not all that into actual working out and lifting weights id suggest HIIT for some intense cardio.

just remember if you are working on your legs really hard and are starting to look nice and diced you need to work on the rest of your body. even though you might not want to just because its easier to see the results in the larger muscle groups (in your case your legs). my buddy and i talk about this on almost a weekly basis as we are both the same body types (medium framed mesomorphs) but, he has a bigger upper body and much smaller body and im the oppisite with a smaller upper and much bigger lower.

Not many checked in at 5/7. Next check is 5/21.

No, I'm not Kim, I just checked off the weeks. I might have gotten out of sequence though.

196 today going out the door.

mossguy 05-14-2012 11:47 AM

195.6

jyl 05-21-2012 07:17 AM

184.5 lb

Really trying to turn over a new leaf on my eating. Notice I've been absent from the Dinner thread . . . more fish, veggies, fruit . . . less bread, rice, pasta . . . and just trying to eat less. For some reason over the past month or two I've been hungry and eating more than usual, weight has been flat, and in the past few weeks I've been weaker (I ride the same commute route every day so I can notice when I'm stronger and when I'm weaker). Wonder if I have a worm or something.

Ramathorn 05-21-2012 07:29 AM

ouch, did not eat for my body type (mesomorph) for a week and back upto 183 got down to 179 (Thatll teach me to eat on my buddies body type). anyhow back to my 40:30:30 ratio for the remainder of the month for my cut cycle to reach my goal of 177.

mossguy 05-21-2012 11:05 AM

194.6

madmmac 05-21-2012 12:12 PM

224 with my knee unloader brace on....so I think I lost a couple. I'm sticking with it.

allaircooled 05-21-2012 02:58 PM

206.6 I gained a little.

techweenie 05-21-2012 04:37 PM

I've been ignoring this thread, but thought I'd pop in with my story. Visiting a friend of mine 2 months ago, I learned that he had joined Weight Watchers and lost 22 lbs (from 370 or so). That was the trigger for me.

I've been in WW for 5 weeks. I believe I am at about -7.5 lbs from a max weight of 195. My self-derived plans covered all the right things, but didn't deliver results. I follow the WW program and have bumped my 5X/week elliptical workout from 50 minutes to 60. Got the resting heart rate to 60. But the rate still rises too fast with exercise and I'm sure my blood pressure is still way high. I'm aiming for a 25 lb loss and figure 10-12 weeks.

jyl 05-22-2012 06:23 AM

That's great. Test your BP, the wrist or arm testers cost $40.

techweenie 05-22-2012 06:39 AM

My blood pressure rises at the thought of seeing my blood pressure.

Rufblackbird 05-23-2012 11:57 AM

262. eating less, still need to start exercising :/

jyl 05-23-2012 06:33 PM

Simultaneously fat and not fat - quite a trick.
