Anyone read Japanese? Translate two characters?

These two characters are on the inner core of a type of tape that I use for work.
In English, is pritned "Toyo Tape"

I assume the Japanese characters are the same thing, but I want to make sure.

I need to find this tape company in Japan, and I'm having a darn hard time locating them.

Anyone in Japan heard of this company?

Yes, I was informed a while ago that the characters are "Toyo"
And also that the Toyo tape company had been sold to another company, name unknown to me, but they are still making the same kinds of tape. Hopefully, I can figure out who bought them and buy direct. I'm paying an arseload for that stuff.

I spent almost $450 on tape today, between buying out my middle-man supplier and a friend in Japan's entire stock.

Anyone here work for 3M?

Slightly off topic...

I am curious, what type of tape it is that is so specialized that only one manufacturer makes it like you want? What does it tape together? I am just curious.

I have used some special tape to tape film together that has to withstand 100 degree photo chemicals that go from alkaline to acidic and has to be very thin and flexible. Tape that works well in very cold temperatures is another challenge.

We use a light bulb for a scanner that the manufacturer just kept jacking the price up. It got to be over 500 bucks per bulb and then thay said we needed to sign up with a maintenance agreement for a few grand to even be able to buy from them. After a lot of looking we found the manufacturer and we can get them for 50 bucks each. We purchased a 5 year supply.

My wife runs the tape business for 3M. What do you want and how much do you need?

Well, even this Toyo tape isn't exactly like I want, but it's the closest.
Around 1997 or so, 3M discontinued what's called a "flatback" black paper electrical tape. At that time, one particular company bought up ALL the remaining stock...I've been told they have cold rooms to store it in, they bought so much of it.

It's used for wrapping coils in my line of work. Sure, technically a different tape would work, but the customers want *this* tape.
3M still makes the same tape, but only in white.. which won't look good or be correct for the application.
I know of one company that has spoke to 3M and guaranteed them a $25k order if they'd make the tape again. I myself would almost consider giving away my 911 for a few rolls... we want it that bad.

The Toyo tape is good, but it's adhesive is a little weak, and the paper material is a little thin.

Deanp, I'll check those out, thanks.

As I recall, Japanese kanji are taken from the Chinese alphabet. There are other characters as well, katakana and hirigana, I think. Been a looong time since I took Japanese.

I think there are something like 5,000 Kanji characters, but schoolchildren get by with the basic 1,000.....And sounds can be spelled differently.

There's also Romanji(roman english), and probably something else I'm forgetting. Most likely, the Ryukuan(southern island) and Ainu(Hokaido) have different character sets as well if they use any written language.

That character "To" is the same as in Kyoto and Tokyo (capital and city).
A lot of names use mountain, river, tree, east/west/north/south, giant, and other basic meanings.
