Lots of great insight here guys.
To clarify....she does not try to control my life and I have as much freedom as I wish to have. My problem stems from the fact that I don't go out and do the things that make me happy when she is around. I think I feel guilty because she really seems to be in love (why? I'm not sure....as someone stated earlier I may be one of those A-Holes who just be hard to live with) and I feel like I have not yet really allowed her to see all of who I am. I have yet to fully open up to her emotionally and its been two years now. She is a great lady but I feel like she is the one getting short changed in this relationship. How the hell do you know what "love" is anyway?

There's a recent book on the subject:
Author: Living alone widespread, can be healthy for you (Includes interview) Seems more people are living alone, which, does not necessarily mean they are lonely.

btw, you dont have to be an "A-hole" to be difficult to live with. Im a very nice person. Too nice.
However, my house is one big cloud of smoke and always will be. I like to smoke and I dont quit because some chick tells me to, I quit because I want to. I like loud music. I like Simon & Garfunkel but I also love scarry satanic black metal played at high volume all the time I dont believe in making my bed I like to get drunk out of my skull and play my guitar at 3 in the morning I never ever have food in the fridge. When i want to eat, i get in the car and go to dunkin donuts I dont like talking about how my day went...MY DAY SUCKED just like yesterday. Why discuss this every damn day

I have and do live alone, and I am also very happily married. She lives in the city, I live in the country. Date nights are awesome. I travel a lot lately, for weeks at a time. Have lived alone since mid 2009 and I HIGHLY recommend it.
Living alone puts a man in touch with himself. You will be surprised how much you will learn about yourself..... cannot recommend it enough! |

I lived alone for 9 years between marriages; age 33 to 42....It was hell. I bought my 1st Porsche (912), the motorcycle collection hit an all time high of 22, steady stream of girlfriends, and took m/c trips whenever I wanted......It was hell.
I finally realized I needed more supervision and help spending my money........I can be happy either way.

My older brother is 62 and has been married and divorced 3 times. He's now retired and lives a lonely life.
I'll be married 20 years this year. We are very different.
