Really nice pic of your trip Dan, thanks for bring us along for the trip.

For anyone heading over to Lanai, there is a very nice hike up behind Lanai city. It goes along the ridge there with all the big Norfolk pines. Great views, you can see Molokai, Maui, then Kahoolawi, as you cruise the ridge, beautiful

Cheers Richard
Boy the spell checker sure doesn't do Hawaiian well, But then neither do I and I've lived here for ages.

i don't think there's really any difference in the whale watching leaving from one port vs the other, except if you happen to be closer to one. but when we went in nov the whale tended to be closer to the lahania port so they got to spend more time watching while we had to high tail it back to port.

You are probably talking the Monroe Trail? How long did it take you to hike it, did you do the entire thing?

We took a day off from the beach today. Too much sun too soon. Instead we went for a drive to Lahaina and Kaanapali. (sp)? Sorry, I don't use a spell checker. We had lunch at Cheese Burgers in Paradise. Oooofff! I still feel like a bloated tick! I am definitely back on my diet when I return home. Not used to eating that kind of food.
I got a tee shirt there as well as a full belly. (Way too full!) BTW, thats a tee shirt shrink wrapped down.

A banyan tree photo op.

Can't forget some Lappert's ice cream. None for me, thank you.

More later....

Did something pretty cool today. We took a boat out to Molokini and then to a place they call "Turtle Town." Molokini was impressive but I think I like Turtle Town better.
The boat company we used was "Pride of Maui". Top notch crew and boat. I am kicking myself though for not using my own equiptment. (We brought our own stuff) My mask kept fogging up even though I was using their stuff to keep it clear.
The turtles were amazing!
You are not supposed to touch, pursue, tease...etc.etc. the turtles. I had an accidental "close up and personal" with one of them though. I like to dive and stay down for a minute or so. Apparently while I was down, a turtle came up over the top of me and when I surfaced, I was literally face to face with it. I'm talking like rubbing shoulders close! I never touched it and just floated and let it swim away from me. Shame on me for not looking up while I was ascending!
Here is a video of another of the turtles I shot with my little hand held underwater camera. Sorry about the beginning of it.

A couple more pics from the day.

Well we are back home as of late last night. Great fun. We took kanadary's advise and hit the Maui Swap Meet. We're not sorry we did. We love that kind of stuff.
There was a catering truck there that served some calamari to die for. (Kineole Grill out of Kihei) The fresh fruit and flowers were outstanding.
A few more pictures from our trip.
I also took another video of one of the turtles swimming. This one was taken the day before we left.

Thanks for coming along on our trip to Maui. Aloha.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I hope you have a great time while on Maui. Our family loves it here.
PS, Richard (from Kauai) we love it there too.

I once took a helo ride in Kauai which was amazing. I still 'fly' the islands in MSFS2020 to get the lay of the land and transportation routes though the valleys. Some of that land must have incredible views irl.

I did that in '82. It was too touristy for me then. I hope you do better.

I find Maui boring. Compared to the Big Island or Kauaii...........

Maui only has Lahina and Kehie, snore.

Congratulations! I hope you have a great time.
I need to get back to the islands. It has been too long.

Dang... 1982... Yeah, I've watched Maui grow seemingly exponentially more touristy in just the last 2 decades. If it was too touristy in 1982 then.. Yikes. You may not want to go back.

Hawaii generally sucked for me. Not my kind of place. Windy, hot, humid and as you indicate, crowded. I wouldn't go back for free.

Congrats and have fun in Maui!
