Back in the stone ages when I was still living with my parents we had a Pointer named Spike. The girl that lived next door loved dogs but her parents would not let her have one. She would come over and borrow Spike. We lived on base at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. She would hop on her bike and pedal around the base perimeter road and Spike would trot along side her. She would stop at one point at one of the golf courses and he would drink some water. They would get home, he had more water and took a nap for an hour and he was ready to go with her again. She said Spike became very protective of her on her outings. That dog was a running fool. He loved to run.

He is definitely a herding dog. He ‘herds’ our 5 year old Bengal cat – who is very surprisingly extremely tolerant of him. He loves harassing her so we often have to step in. He also has daily mad fits where he runs around the perimeter of the room or yard at top speed with a low growl. I guess we’ll have to get him some sheep . . .

Shelties are essentially smaller, somewhat calmer versions of Border Collies that were bred for work in the Shetland Islands. They can be timid if you don’t socialize them frequently.

We are crate training him but benignly. He is essentially already house trained but not to the point that we can trust him yet & he has always successfully slept all night. A great pup so far.

Sleeping like a bat is also a little disconcerting.

One of his rare playful moments. Wished he did this more often.

Tossing his stuffed dog around

On occasion, we catch him tossing around his hedgehog(no, it's not a Ron Jeremy doll) around the house but stops if he knows your watching.

Yo Bugs......thanks for asking and btw, LOVE the above pics of a playful Sir Henry!

FWIW, when I first brought Billabong home in 2006 from the kill shelter and what I have come to believe was a very rough start in life, her personality was one of a puppy who never learned to play - or trust humans - or trust other dogs - or even know how to sit. It took a few years for her to learn how to both trust and to learn how to play and enjoy herself. The process took quite a while but along the way for me it was heart warming to see little glimpses of her progress here and there. I'll never forget seeing her sit on the floor for the first time. It was quite a moment for us.

So - may you and Sir Henry continue down that same path with the same results.

Winkipop unfortunately had a bad reaction to an ivermectin med I gave her last Saturday and she spent a few days with no appetite and very lethargic. The good news is she finally turned around yesterday and is practically back to normal. I had given her liquid nourishment with a syringe through the side of her mouth. Staying up a few nights worrying. She had never had that happen before and Billabong had the same med and was just fine. New one on me but she'll be getting a blood work and full chemistry profile when my vet gets back to town in a week just to make sure she'll be OK. Scared the crap out of me.

Her appetite is back and better than ever and her mobility about 90% back to normal so happy to report that.

Whew!

Here's the 2 little beggars loitering at the kitchen door checking out the food prospects...lol....

Also, at a friend of mine's today doing some landscape lighting and they have 2 mini 'Sir Henry's'...check it out...Roxie and Lola....
