man..getting old isnt fun.

i used to heal so fast..laugh at cuts and bruises..hahahaha.."where is the neosporin?" hahahh.

now? ouch.."where is the bengay?"

i hurt my knee, moving something very heavy and very boxy..i had young helpers, but i was being stubborn and stupid..i did most of the heavy lifting. arrggghhh WHY???

the heavy thing showed up last wednesday..it is sunday, and my knee still hurts...i had one painfree day, so i went biking. big mistake. i was very sore again.

i think i pushed my kneecap into my joint..and bruised it. no real damage, none to the cartilage pads at least. not even really limping, just achey.

stupid stupid stupid. i get better, i will dedicate myself to regaining some lost flexibility. enough of this schit.

Yeah, it hurts. I have been reno'ing my office during my 'holiday' this week. At about 1/2 the speed I was capable of 10 years ago . . .

Getting old sucks but it sure beats the alternative.

When I was a Teen, Skating, riding BMX, Surfing, ect. Everyone one would tell me;

Boy, you will feel that after you turn 30
Boy, I did feel a bit, but what they didn't warn me about was the fact after I turned 40, I would have to Fixing everything
Yea, it isn't fun getting old, but I guess it beats the alternative

Just gotta keep moving. I'm a bit sore in the morning, takes me a while to warm up. But, partied with 30 somethings last night, got up, rode hard for an hour, showed up a breakfast with all of them barely moving at 10. I just turned 49 a few months ago. The older I get the more I work out.

My opinion on how to stay fit and mobile into your 50s (and maybe beyond, I dunno)

- No contact sports. So many guys burn it up with football, MX, etc for a few years in their twenties and are seriously gimpy for the second half of their life

- No running. I may be biased by being forced to run my guts out in high school XC. But I firmly believe our knees were not meant to run for more than the average lifespan of a prehistoric hunter-gatherer, like 25 years.

- Keep your weight down. Pretend you're carrying 40 extra pounds. I mean, pick up a 40 lb kettle bell and carry it around EVERYWHERE 24/7. No wonder your back, knees, hips, etc are hurting.

- Easy on the booze. You get one liver free. The next one costs $400,000.

I've broken both wrists, the end off of my left elbow, 4 ribs displacement fractures, tailbone, the heal off of my right foot, the outside of my right ankle off, a tendon ripped a chunk of bone off of my right ankle, 1 head concusion and compressed t-10 to 1/2 of it's height plus blew a pie cut out of it from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock ( I can still walk!) Both inside and exterior tendons in both kness are torn. You can rotate my left foot 240* and right 280* with out much discomfort. Oh and have turned BOTH of my feet black 2x, The worst was foe a month. the bottoms where black, the middle purple and the tops yellow.

All of this prior to age 40. Beer does help mask some of the pain.
