I have wondered, though, if there are documented actual occurrences of a CCW licensee actually preventing or stopping a gun crime or other crime in progress, due to being armed. The main argument for CCW seems to be "armed citizens will stop crimes as they occur" and I wonder if there is evidence that this happens.

Thanks,

d.
American Rifleman has several of these documented each month. OK, some are gun owning homeowners but a lot are CCW rescues as well.

That video could have gone down a whole lot worse if that kid started shooting. Not sure if I was in that situation if I'd want anyone to start shooting. The other people in that cafe had their lives thrust into the hands of the old gunman. They were involved in a gunfight whether they wanted to be or not.

i friggen love firearms.

.i dont wear it like a badge on my chest. i just quietly do my thing. part of it is training from living where i live. stay under the radar.

same goes for hunting. i'm a lousy but proud hunter. but i wont drive down the road with a dead thing hanging out of my truck..under the radar.

my buddies mom (sage korean lady) once said, (picture very thick accent) "a jar full of pennies makes more noise than a jar full of dollar bills" this applys for a myriad of situations...like this one.

The incidence of this happening is so tiny that it absolutley does not feature when compared to the total incidence of gun crime.

However the gun fetishists constantly use this argument because it really is all they got - apart from bluff and bluster and bombast and macho swagger. (see OP)

Since he was there to rob the place, and brandishing a gun, one must assume he was prepared to do so.

I am absolutely certain if I were in that situation, I would very much prefer no one started shooting.

Yes, they did. Prior to that, their lives were in the hands of the armed criminals who sought to rob them (and who knows what else). Either way, their lives were in someone else's hands, and that someone was not of their choosing. The first party that took control of their lives were the criminals. The second party to take control of their lives was the old man. I think it was fairly obvious whose hands were the most likely to prove best for them.

That is the nature of being a victim. No one chooses to be robbed, assaulted, or murdered. A criminal has, by definition, chosen someone who would rather not participate in his chosen activity of the moment. There could have been a "gunfight", albeit a very one-sided one, even in the absence of the old man.

Of coures I guess you could always ask (very politely) that the young men bring their robbery and/or gunfight elswhere, since you really didn't want to be a part of it.
