Depends on the law for serving notice of the tickets in his state. In most of AZ you can get away with ignoring them and then dodging the process server or registering your car in your spouse's name. A few cities have the "alternate" service, where the process server lies on an affadavit about making three attempts to serve and then judge let them just tape it to your door and you're considered served.

first off red light cameras are alive and well in San Diego, and after searching the ca vc (vehicle code ) i can not find the "3 second rule" for stopping. the gentleman that started the thread is just that however, operating a motor vehicle with no clue to the rules of the road is unconscionable. please study up and pay particular attention to right of way rules, btw I am a little sensitive to this as I spend most of my time on a motorcycle and have lost a few friends to those that "failure to yield". rant over carry on

Pick up a driver's license booklet from the DMV, read it, reflect on it, I think that is all you need.

Bummer about the tickets but hardly the end of the world.

Frankly if enough people do that and get pissed off that traffic is snarling up at intersections because of these stupid things, maybe there will be enough of a public outcry to get them pulled out. I'm certainly not going to give Johnny Law an "easy one" to nail me with.

I'm REALLY happy that there are no traffic lights at all near where I live (I pass four stop signs on my way to the train station and that's it), although there's talk that they might start getting installed in Boston (where I work) and in several surrounding suburban communities. All the more reason I'll never give up my house in the country and stick to riding the trains. I don't drive into the city unless there's literally no other alternative. Too much B.S. to deal with between traffic, parking, idiot drivers and now crap like this - I don't miss urban living at all. It seemed like practically every single intersection had cameras back when I lived in SoCal and I don't miss them one bit. I hope they don't migrate eastward to cities on this coast but it's probably inevitable - all the crap seems to eventually leech its way from L.A. and infect the rest of the country.

me: how do you know the camera is functioning properly? can i see the service record please?

out west you may turn right on red AFTER you come to a complete stop and the intersection is clear unless otherwise posted. right on red is treated the same as a stop sign

in washington they CANT photo the driver so they need to prove you were the one causing the infraction. without a witness that you can question they have no case.

Dang, Scott! I know EXACTLY where that intersection is located! Been staying in Aurora and working in Denver the last few days.

Further... I yielded space to a Panamera on a two-lanes-down-to-one-lane freeway ramp two or three days ago. See in your sign you have a Panamera, would be pretty weird if it was YOU or your wife. Didn't see who was driving though.

A buddy took me to lunch at a place called BJ's here in Aurora today. Pretty darn good lunch!

Anyway, sheesh - small world!

The Iliff to I225 ramp that's under construction? If it was between 6:00 AM and 7:30 Am and it was a Black 4S it's very likely it was me as I head that way most every day at that time after I make my deposits.

BJ's is nice, I've not been there since they opened but it was a very nice place then. Directly across the street from the now infamous movie theater.

Also a followup I contacted the Aurora city traffic referee and I do not have any other pending infractions thank goodness. So I paid via credit card and I'll be sure to mind the traffic laws after this. I was interested to find out that the entire system is a product of Lockheed Martin and developed right here in Colorado.

Don't know if it was a 4S, but the time/place are about right along with the color! So pretty slim chance it as somebody else.

There wasn't a right turn on red for me to be 100% sure, though...

You know, these Pelican guys are never going to let you live that one down, Scott! Ten years from now someone will show up at a get together with a shirt that says "SCOTT - RED MEANS STOP" - bwahahaaa!!!

I've really enjoyed my stay here. Worked in the mornings/early afternoons, then late in the day went hiking. Not today - but every day prior. Been hiking over near Morrison. My company does the concessions at Red Rock, so spent time there along with a couple of other parks all right in the area. You live in a GREAT place, Scott!

unless posted red light means stop and if safe proceed ( we're not talking going through the intersection!). these rolling or hollywood stops are not legal and endanger life...think about it when some driver rolls the light or the stop sign and you hit him/her.
life's too short for this "cool" behavior .
i have been at he scene a few seconds after this type of accident and trust me it wasn't pretty. the second gained with the rolling stop was lost while waiting for the ems, much less the time time to recuperate.

Rolling up to, and rolling thru a right hand turn on red is NOT the same as having complete disregard for the red, and blasting thru. Yet it is fined as the same. Why is that? ...And automated? If that intersection is SOOOO sensitive with wrecks happening often, then shouldn't there be a first responder there babysitting the intersection?

This 'gottcha' game is just obtuse.

It is the same. you are required to stop. Can you honestly tell me you have time to check both crosswalks, the on coming traffic, left turners, side traffic both ways, and double check for motorcycles in your illegal rolling stop. Is that 3 seconds worth your life or someone else's? I can't believe the way people on here whine about getting caught doing something that is illegal and justifying it by saying the law is stooped and they are being safe. Man up, you screwed up, pay the fine and don't do it again.

who is/was playing gotcha? i made a comment about safety and yes i know accidents happen thats why they blah, blah and so on.
i try to drive responsibly and "rely" on others to do the same...hoping we won't have a "drive" through the red because i think i can "make" it or illegal u-turn from far right lane argument next.
in my opinion o.p.s a good man for owning the situation.

Well u seemed to take it quite well that u got those traffic tickets. There are laws for a reason and that is to prevent accidents. I think of the times that patience pays. The times that I think that other drivers have come out of nowhere -
out of an intersection that I did not check or a driver did an illegal turn of 180 degrees right in front of me and I thought I was being patient.
Patience patience and more patience. Why be in a hurry to have an accident?

Sometimes. And that's the point. The automated systems don't make a judgement call. People, OTOH, are quite capable of assessing the situation.

there are MILLIONS of 'California stops' daily, w/o incident. Some are a queue of slow roll and go cars weaving thru a congested intersection. If automated ticketers would be installed, those intersections would have horrible intersection efficiencies.

Here's one for you, ever see heavy traffic merge together even though one lane has a Yield sign? ...that Yield sign is being disregarded by those pushing their way into heavy traffic. Should we set up automated systems there? --of course not.

Traffic flows well as people figure out reasonable actions. Automated systems are a gotcha game for profit.

And, NO, I have never been nabbed by one of these systems.
