Price check on aisle 5, early 911s
These cars have gone completely around the bend. This car did not meet reserve @ $144k and it's not a true first rate car. Don't get me wrong, it's real nice and could be easily made nicer, but it's also very obviously restored and has some really incorrect details, etc.
If PWD chimes in here, he will rip this car apart, I think. His green car would be a $200k car all day long now. These were ~$20k cars back in '05 or so. ![]()

I watched a '73 S go for 195k at the Pebble Beach Gooding auction a few months ago. Estimate was 120-140. A clean, original 911 is definitely a good thing to have - although, admittedly, the profit margins are a lot smaller than, say, a 250GTO or something.
I hope the early short hoods stay cheap for a few more years, at least. Otherwise I'm never getting an air-cooled 911...

Yes it is, isn't it. Don't think I can change it, though.

Nutty. My 1970 911T was $5k in 2003, it had some rust but was a great driver with a clean interior, decent paint, Webers, a strong motor, and a freshly rebuilt 901. The same car would easily be $20k+ today. Even the Carrera and SC are starting to move into the upper teens for decent drivers. I think the 996 is the new budget 911.

When I sold my '72 T in '95, the best I could get was $4500, and it festered on the market for a while before I got that. Very, very, very little rust, had been upgraded to a 2.7 but still had MFI.

Done! Never had to do it before, so that is what "go advanced" means on the edit tab.

Ahhh, the poor USA flippers. The best unrestored '72 911S on the planet now resides in Istanbul....and it's not leaving.
![]() BTW, the link doesn't work...

Okay, there I got it. You're right...not comparable to my old car.
Proves to me that P.T. Barnum was right...the bid amount.

But does it now occur to you that you've taken a $150k schit as of today just to spite some guys on the internet who wanted to buy your car? IIRC, there were at least a couple people who are definitely not "flippers", (more like hoarders), who were interested in it. Oh well, you sure showed them. ![]()

At today's prices, the people buying them are definitely not "flippers". So there would be no danger of your car selling for ~$200k to a "flipper".

Absolutely zero regrets for passing my car on to a dear friend for $65K back in 2007. If you recall correctly, Denis, you were the only poster here who didn't say I was ripping Evren off when I revealed the selling price. I was fully aware that even then, it was a half price "friends" sale.
So, let's take your assumption that I took a $150K "schit". I really don't care. I've never been about money beyond the security of knowing I am living a lifestyle I enjoy without having to work. I was bored with the car almost as much as I was bored with the shallow type of people it attracted. (edit) I was tempted to toss a couple of names out here...but I won't. A Bullitt Mustang is serving me well these days as a fun to drive car that is easily replaced. Changes in attitudes, man...without changing latitude.
