Excuse me?? They may look nice in a photo (which is excellent BTW) but my gawd bet they are absolutely terrible to walk in. Wish ladies would stop with this 4" heel crap and just get a nice looking flat pair of shoes to walk in.

Please stop posting all this "poser" photos of the models with the bikes. The last one is very nice but then SHE is a bike rider while the others are just fluff with a nice bike in the photo... If I want T&A I can go to the T&A threads!

Above looks fake.

Below is real.



1974 Raleigh Professional. This was the top-of-the-line production Raleigh racer, except for the Team Pro bikes. All butted Reynolds 531 frame, normally all Campagnolo, in a beautiful mink blue. In good "rider" condition, these go for $700-1,000 today.



1973 Raleigh Gran Sport. This was a mid-range sport-tourer. Nice Carlton-made Reynolds 531 frame (not sure if that includes the stays), mixed and generally decent components. Much liked for its lagoon blue-and-white paint and comfortable rider. These go for $250-400 today.
I rode one through college and law school, until it met a curb at >30 mph.

Just found out that my old PX-10 should be shipped this week, so the waiting will soon come to an end!

Also found out that its prolly going to require a strip down and repainting. Any one any good sources (other than Fleabay) for decals for a late 1960's vintage bike?

cyclomondo (an Aussie) sells on his eBay store, he is reliable and his decals are good quality. They are vinyl stick-on, not water-slide, so not perfect for a super-authentic restoration but for you and I, easy and perfect. Costs about $50 for a set. More for the Reynolds stickers.

There are a couple other sources - hlloyd in the UK (may have the water-slide type), velocals (maybe better for custom work), etc.

For repainting, there is such a wide range of prices. A fancy place like CyclArt might charge $700, an auto body shop might charge $200 if you prep it. I don't know that there will be a 3X quality difference.

If it needs rechroming, that will cost more, but again prices vary widely. There are bike specific chromers, personally I'd go talk to the local hot rod shop and see who they use. As long as you make sure they know what is and is not to be chromed - don't end up with the steerer tube chromed so the headset won't fit etc.

I'd like to try my hand at painting a frame someday. I think an air compressor and a touch-up gun is what is recommended for bikes.

yeah, I'm aware of the short comings of tri bars....but when in the groove they are a plus. having both bikes with the same riding or close to it, position is a plus.....

I think I see a place where you could fit the kitchen sink! Tri bars are great if you are not doing group rides, climbing, or have to use the brakes.

Working on internet access....

I don't do groups and when braking use the hoods, climbing....well, I don't get up out of the saddle much anymore due to my back issues.

Climbing in a sitting position is actually a good thing.

Bike is a 2006 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Elite. Only major mod are the wheels which are off a newer S-Works (went tubeless at the same time) and some bling stuff like Shimano Pro stem and bar, Chris King Headset and WTB Rocket V saddle.

What are ya'lls thoughts on hybrid bikes? I can throw street tires on my old skool diamondback apex, but want to move up. I'll never be a serious MTB rider or roadie, but there are some incredible trails to ride around here.

I plan on visiting a LBS, but want to get some thoughts.

Are there a line of components I should not even consider? Most of the bikes have Shimano 105 stuff, which seems good.

I'll probably spend 5-800 bucks....don't laugh :--)

105 stuff is the low end......if you are going to pound on it....no.
