How many of you guys can still drink Milk?

I don't know about you guys, but I used to love drinking Milk.

But, over time I cannot drink it the way I once could. I find it too watery these days and at times it smells odd to me. I've often heard people say that it's due to the time of year etc, the kind of grass the cows are eating and all that sort of stuff.

However, for the last few years when I drink it, I get a throat irritation where it develops a tickle in my throat, or it gives you that coated feeling in my throat, the same way greasy fast food does, where I'm constantly clearing my throat. As time goes by, it's developed into coughing and is now at a stage where I break into a paroxysm of racking coughs within 5-10 minutes of drinking milk.

I figured I've developed an intolerance to lactose over the years, but my doc tells me that it's just all the crap they put in milk these days. It reacts badly for some people. I have had to switch to soy milk and while it tastes fine for cappuccinos and lattes, I don't know about having it on my cereal...

Doesn't your wife get sore?

Just kidding, I have the same issue. I drink Lactaid milk, fixed my problem. I also can't eat ice cream without a lactaid pill. Never used to happen, just evolved over the years.

I don't know if it's available Down Under, but have you tried organic milk?

I'm firmly (ahem) convinced that nowadays young women are developing sooner and with more...spectacular results than when I was going through puberty. I chalk it up to all of the Bovine Growth Hormone in regular milk.

I, too, have become lactose intolerant over the past year or two. No problems with my throat, though. The resulting issues tend to be at the other end of the digestive tract.

Ahh, milk and cookies. Unfortunately they are pleasures of my past. Either I'm getting too old for it, or they've started making milk out of barbed wire and Drano.

Same here... seems to have developed with middle age, had no problem as a youth.

I only drink milk once a year in the form of eggnog with a healthy shot (or three) of Bourbon.

YMMV

Sort of quit drinking it a few years ago. I'll have it on cereal but that is about it.

I tried Silk (soy milk) and thought it was ok. I can't drink milk like I used to either (must have turned lactose intolerant.) If you can't drink it, try to get your calcium some other way like calcium fortified Orange Juice.

Growing up, I didn't really like it, but had it with cereal, and the taste wasn't as bad if I had it from a frozen mug.

Now I have almond, coconut, rice, soy milk, etc.

drink about a gallon per week of organic, whole milk. love it. have bought "regular" milk once-twice in the last few years and it was piss. Stoneyfield Farm, best milk by far.

try cardboard boxed organic milk. especially if you can get from small "international" type grocery stores. tastes 100% better than Deans or Prarie or whatever else you can get at your normal chain grocery store
