My daughter isn't going anywhere alone until at least 35. She will have completed Ninja training by then.

Vancouver is a scarry town. She might shop herself to death.

Unless she is not endowed with common sense, yes.

Point of reference, my 19 year old went to live in England last September. She just came back for the first time this week, leaves tomorrow and won't be home until Christmas. I miss my little girl terribly, but am incredibly proud to have an independent and resourceful daughter than can travel around the globe on her own.

Wow, I can't believe you seriously asked that question.

My S.O. works for a large corporation that attracts young ladies from the best universities and colleges around the country (and the world). She has noted the lack of maturity in these 22-23 year old girls, book smart but sheltered from the world.

Anecdotes like this confirm why. It's sad

If your kid can't or doesn't want to be independent by 18 you did something wrong. Sorry to offend but this is becoming a big problem with today's youth.

Tell her to avoid the intersection of Main and Hastings and not to reuse needles. The heroine shoot-up clinics in Vancouver give fresh needles and a safe place for addicts to get high.

Just messing with you. She will be fine...

If you have been "over protective" all her life up until just now, she may not have the street sense to not believe the guys that will want to be her friend at the bar in the hotel.

At 24 how is this even a question? Of course you are and you already knew it....
Cut the cord pops , she needs to learn to be independent. Really she needed to learn that years ago.

If she has no mental disability, she should have no parent with her at age 18 at the latest.

I have daughters myself and it isn't easy to let go, but you don't do them a favor keeping them like Rapunzel. The fairy tale is actually a good example how well that works.

From what you have written here in the past, I presume you have taught her well and she has a level head on her shoulders.

Yes, you are being a bit overprotective, no, there is nothing wrong with that and no, it will not ever go away.

I have moderated somewhat. Instead of going en masse with her, my wife and I in the aircraft I could do a roadtrip in the P car(by myself - wifey does not care for long trips in the P car) and meet at the Van. airport after she has flown there, take her to the hotel, stay a day till she meets with other conveners and then leave......

Are u still going to rain on my parade?

Will your daughter truly appreciate the gesture?

Will you truly appreciate the mini-vacation?

If the answer to both is honestly "yes", then no one will rain on your parade

Otherwise, you are still being WAY overprotective to the point of being smothering

Yes indeed! What does your ADULT daughter think of your plans? Did she go away to college btw? If so, then...ah, nevermind

ps: I can't BELIEVE no one has mentioned this before now...

This thread is worthless without pictures

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize the convention was coming up so quickly. Don't worry about it. I have her number and already made plans. I got you covered.

Ok, had to say it.

I agree with everyone above. That's nuts. Did she go to college?

You are in luck. I've recently started a service where I chaperone young women at conventions for a modest fee + expenses. I'll need some photos of the subject in order to determine the fee, it's based on cartage weight, among other things. PM me for details.

Is she unsure about going? Has she traveled on business before?

If she's not uncertain about the travel, then here's what I feel the message you are sending is: "We don't trust you/think you are capable/ to get yourself from an airport to a hotel and check in by yourself."
