Jim! Behave! ;) Get some rest, birthday boy. I always tell my patients I love them but I never want to see them again unless its at the grocery store! Big hugs!

I got a VM from Jim around 6 this evening saying that all scans were good and they thought it was just exhaustion from not staying home that did it this time. I was in a business meeting so I didn't get to call him before he would have been in bed. Ill get another update tomorrow, but it sounds positive now.

Go! Jim! Go!

Go! Jim! Go!

I understand that this is a message of support and friendship but the last thing he needs to do is Go! anywhere. He needs to seriously chill-out and adopt some major lifestyle changes if he wants any health from here on out. A serious stroke in one's 50s is a sign of either a genetic pre-disposition and/or caused by alcohol or smoking usually. Or both. My paternal GF died from a stroke in his late 50s and my dad had one at about 60. My mom's brother died from one in his 60s, he was my favorite uncle bit he was a heavy drinker and a cig smoker.

It runs in my family like crazy, but there were environmental factors weighing heavily in each case. I wish Dueller the best luck possible with his recovery.

Get well soon Jim, take it easy and follow the Doctors' orders and follow the nurses as well. If you need anything, we're just a short hop down I-20 and a good excuse for a road trip is always cool with us.

Denis isn't a doc, but "what he said." It especially applies if it's true Jim suffered from exhaustion. However from his description of his entry into that place after he got out of the hospital didn't seem like exhaustion. I hope he takes care of himself & takes his doc's advice to heart.

Dammit. If guys like Jim are getting into this kind of trouble, I'm not to far off.

The older I get, the more I start wondering if I haven't already f*d my health over.

Never too late to try to improve things. :)

You may have done damage to your health from smoking, for instance, but the human body has an amazing ability to heal and repair damage. The younger you are, the truer this statement is.

I sincerely wish you the best in your recovery Jim, you are one of the good guys around here & I always enjoy your input. Your sense of humor serves us all well.

Dueller 03-29-2013 11:02 AM

ok...dueller here. typing one handed si i'll forego capitalization. bear with me. first, thanks to eveyone for your concern and thoughts/prayers....i truly appreciate and feel your good vibes.

so..apparently i overdid it when discharged on tuesday. i went out that night to visit my buds and overdid my at home pt. went out again on wednesday night for my bday and dinner.i've been really anxious and haven,t really slept more than 3-4 hous total a nightsince last saturday. preliminary doctors feel exhaustion made my symptoms worse and initial ct scan and mri shows no new stroke. but back in hospital to forrce me to rest. they knocked me out last night and i finally slept about 10 hours. feel much better/stonger but still almost total paralysis on left side. slowly regaining min function....film at eleven.....lol

thanks again peeps for your concern.

jim

Best of luck with your recovery, Jim. Listen to the docs (and non-docs!) telling you to take it easy. I know it's tough to "just" lay/sit around, but look at it as an opportunity for some well-deserved downtime.

pete3799 03-29-2013 11:19 AM

Rest up and get well soon.

p911dad 03-29-2013 01:33 PM

Good luck with your recovery, Jim! I went through a similar event (not stroke but heart blockage) that nearly killed me, but with my good docs and my wife that made me behave, I am still here 4 years later, knock on wood. Had to change a few things, but I got used to it. It ain't easy getting back, as you well know. Time is a great healer.

john70t 03-29-2013 02:13 PM

Jim:
For the next month, or two, or three: Concentrate fully on ONLY getting continuous sleep, healthy food/water/piss/poop/etc.

This should be the only goal in life at this point.

The rest will happen, eventually.
All in good time.

Godspeed.

Somebody needs to learn how to take it easy.

Don't make me come down there.

vash 03-29-2013 03:25 PM

pavulon 03-29-2013 03:51 PM

Wow...just saw this thread. Take care of yourself Dueller aka "Jimmy da bull" :)!!!

Laneco 03-30-2013 07:24 AM

Take it easy Jim or we're going to have to tie you down.

Then again, it might not be the first time you've been tied up in bed. :D
