My sister has an OK, nice 100 year old or so brick house in Covington that she paid $95K for. Narrow, two story with steep stairs. Not my cup of tea but not bad. She works in Cincy for the DOE. Terrible drive across that stupid old bridge to Covington.

For the old MFI, I've got two guys and one dealer.
#1: is a very good friend that used to build race motors for John Wright, Bob Ennis. #2: Ken Farler. Used to be a Porsche mech & went private a long time ago. He really sort of 'specializes' in turbo stuff, but he's worked on mine & it turned out good. #3: Porsche of the Village in Mariemont. Though I haven't used them for MFI, I've got buds that have, & I do like them there. (Edit: there are a couple of guys in Dayton that are good mechs too & one I know in Louisville) ------ I live just south, in Independence. Newer area. Covington/Mainstrasse area are fun to go hang out and have a beer, but too 'city' for me. Yeah, the bridge can be a pain, but if you plan right it's not a big deal... Not at ALL like SoCal traffic so ill take it.... It's the drivers mostly, not the bridge. A lot of VERY fun driving out in the country too. ------ (PARF Edit: a.k.a. #2: don't need to ridicule anybody, most of them do a good enough job on their own...!)

We are moving from Seattle to Columbus, OH this summer! We were very impressed with the area.

I'm no expert, but if I were moving to Columbus I'd look there first.

You definately want to be on the Northern or Western suburbs of Columbus, very nice, reasonably priced, and low crime. Generally the East side is rough, and other than German Village on the South side, it 's kinda rough also.
Lots of cool things to do all over town and the Blue Jackets, and let's not forget the biggest, and best university in the land.....THE Ohio State University |

the midwest is cold in winter, flat and the snow is wet and heavy
in summer, it is hot and humid I did 4 years there in college and was then further incarcerated for ANOTHER 4 years as a post-doc no matter how good the universities or job, I still want those years back... but, best wishes and I hope you survive... |

Yes, I was checking out Dublin.
During summer I don't think I'll have any problems because hotter and more humid than Puerto Rico it won't be. lol . Winter might be the only problem, but we'll see. |

Columbus is a nice city. Lots to see and do in the region. Go a few miles north on 23 and its just huge tracts of farmland. 270 bypass seemed to always be dangerous because most locals go wot. The speed traps in that area of Ohio do seem to be both pervasive and agressive.

Nice recreational areas within an hour Deleware lake/State park, Alum Creek lake/State park, and Hoover resevoir. Mid-Ohio road race course about 1.5 hours NW, and plenty of car clubs/meets/cruises going on.

What is going on in Ohio you ask?
2 Words... Utica Shale. 2 More Words... Hydraulic Fracturing. Welcome to the energy revolution. For Porsche work around Columbus, avoid Ed Pimm (EPR) like the plague. I bought a car that he 'serviced' regularly about 9 years ago... His work resulted in me getting the car for 50cents on the dollar.

I was there once in college. I remember seeing Ralph Nader speak, but I had too much to drink and most of the trip was not good.

Sycamore, Loveland, Mason, Anderson, Mariemont, Madeira. None of these districts will ever cry for money. There are many good school districts in Cincy, but beware of districts with ongoing financial issues and ever increasing school taxes. My wife and I looked at thirty or so houses last week in the Sycamore and Loveland school districts. We liked these houses the best... They are all 350k or less. Keep in mind that the RE listings in Ohio EXCLUDE square footage in basements, no matter if the basements are "finished" or not. All of the houses listed below have full basements. So a 2,500 sq foot, two story house will also have a 1,250 square foot basement, generally speaking. Basements in houses like those below, are where you will find the laundry room, the furnace room, a family room, another bathroom, and/or a workshop.... 11231 Acrewood Dr, Montgomery Ohio 45249 9442 Bainwoods Dr, Montgomery Ohio 45249 10609 Orinda Dr, Montgomery Ohio 45249 8766 Appleseed Dr, Montgomery Ohio 45249 10720 Weatherstone Court, Loveland Ohio 45140 1214 Silvercreek Circle, Loveland Ohio 45140 Each and every one of these houses has excellent curb appeal, the one trait that my wife and I will not compromise on. Bathrooms/kitchens/backyards can all be upgraded. You can check Google Maps and see that each of these houses present well and are in very solid neighborhoods. The Hamilton County property tax rate is 2%. Also, keep in mind that ALMOST EVERY city/village/township has a local income tax. This tax is in addition to the state income tax. I believe that Loveland's city income tax is 1%. The Amberley Village income tax rate is 2%. (Amberley Village is where I really want to live but it is Cincinnati Public Schools, which are..."problematic") This "local income tax" applies only to earned income, and does not apply to pension income, capital gains, 401k/deferred comp disbursements, etc... The catholic schools are also excellent and it doesn't matter if your kid is catholic or not. They gladly accept Protestant tuition money. |

Good info.
My search basically revolved around the company I was looking at, then to Greatschools.org to find the 10 scores on school districts, then Zillow to check out the homes. Looks like Mason's income tax is 1.12% for 2013. School and District Boundaries Map | GreatSchools ![]()
