Three yrs. ago there was a horrendous fatal read end collision right by my house where a dumptruck didn't even slow down for a red light and ran over four motorcyclists waiting at the stop line. They were pinned and burned to death. I still get the chills riding through that intersection.

I'm gonna go with this 'respect' theme and say the blue car's driver needed to have respect for the living and not stop in the middle of a road.

Most places I've lived, all the vehicles in a funeral procession turn their headlights on.

Regardless of why everyone else was stopped, the driver of the pickup truck demonstrated clear vehicular negligence. Traffic was stopped--for awhile--and the p/u came barreling into everyone. Unless he's got a really, really good reason, the p/u driver should lose his license for a long, long time, if not for life. Or that's the way it would work out were I king for a day.

It might actually be illegal to stop for a funeral procession where that happened. However, given the ability of many of those cars to keep in their lane...I might think about stopping/slowing myself...

However you look at it, the truck should not of hauled into the stopped car. Without this, there would of been no wreck. The truck should of been paying enough attention to slow down. Its not like the car and bike came to a stop suddenly, there was a gradual slow decel when coming upon the procession, followed by a second gradual and slow decel following the GMC running the Nissan off the road.

Had I been behind that, I'd of noticed and slowed up meself...

I can't really fault the Nissan for slowing up to "nervously" pass the bikers. When I pass pedal bikes on skinny roads I don't blow them off the road at 55MPH when the opposite lane is clogged....I slow up until I have a safer chance.

Driving can be dangerous, and sometimes you just need to take a chill pill when some one slows up and stops. Doesn't matter whether they are right or wrong.

If you assign 50% to the Nissan, that means you have to assign less than 50% to the black pick up? The GMC caused the original slow down... Majority would pretty clearly go to the pick up. The car had been at a reduced rate of speed for a long period of time, the truck should of been slowing down.

(audio has someone yelling about a funeral procession - so this is my SWAG).

Good observation. I don't think the car that stopped knew what was going on but I see people on my residential street every single day that don't know how wide their car is. When it would be easy for 2 cars to pass in opposite directions with cars parked on either side, they panic and stop.

The driver that stopped was a dumb F for sure, but the person in the truck will have to be cited for reckless driving along with the fault of the 'accident.' I wish there was serious jail time for this kind of thing.

I am glad to see that there was this video because there will be no doubt in anyone's mind how out-of-control and how fast that truck was going. If I was a judge, I'd take the truck driver's license for 10 years. And that's the way it should be.

Good reason not to be on a motorcycle right there.

The roads are full of idiots.

Those motorcyclists weren't too smart either. I would never stop on a shoulder that narrow without a really good reason. When I'm at a stop light, until I have someone stopped behind me, my eyes don't leave my mirrors.

And counter to what I've done all my life, I'm trying to make it a habit to always remain in gear w/clutch pulled in.
To hell with saving a thrust bearing.

That's a good practice for sure, but in the situation in the video: There's no -real- way for the motorcyclist to act safely except to maybe give himself an out off the shoulder. You never know, if he had been SUPER vigilant and hightailed it down the right the pickup driver could very well have reflexed off to the right as well and totally run the cyclist over that way.

The cyclist was very lucky no doubt about it.

I got rear-ended about that hard a few years ago and there was a motorcyclist between us. The motorcyclist was shaken up but not hurt. I think the impact popped him up in the air or off to the side so he wasn't squished.

Just saw a news item this morning that said that you are 30 times more likely to die in a motorcycle accident than one in a car. I know the are other factors such as being more able to avoid the accident on a bike , etc. but that is eye opening.

More like a watermelon seed. Grapes squish.

Probably because there are not too many "minor" accidents on a moto.

If you are going to stop for a funeral precession out of respect, you really should pull over onto the shoulder. You can't simply stop in the middle of a road because of a funeral or because you're confused about why a couple of bikes are pulled over.

The Nissan driver did a very bone-head move, and paid for it.
