Spring tried to stay this year, but ultimately lost

We had a great spring here in Houston, it was long and mild with the cool temps hanging out longer than usual, but it had to come to an end at some point. It hit 104.6° at the house today, and I got this email from weather underground.

Quote:
...Record high temperatures for the day and month set at Houston
intercontinental and hobby airports...

Intercontinental Airport temperature made it up to 107 degrees...which is the new record high temperature for today June 29th. The previous record for the day was 103 degrees in 2009.

This 107 degree reading is also the new record for the highest temperature in June. The previous record was 105 degrees on June 5th and 6th in 2011...and 105 degrees on June 26th in 2009.

A record high temperature of 105 degrees was set at Houston/hobby Airport today. This breaks the old record of 100 set in 2009.

This 105 degree reading is also the new record for the highest temperature in June. The previous record was 102 degrees on June 25th and 26th of 2012...and June 5th of 2011.
It's topped out at 99° at the house the past few days.

The electric bill this month is almost triple what it was 2 months ago and is more than triple what it was 3 months ago.

I'm going to visit the Amazon river this summer, it's sad that the weather is going to be cooler and more comfortable there than here at home.

Still, I would rather be here in Houston than Phoenix. I've heard the whole "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" thing which is true unless the heat is high enough to roast a turkey, and then it's just damn hot.

I was in Houston last week. Yes it was hot!

I definitely prefer it to Phoenix. The lack of DST in Phoenix confused my body something fierce.

It has been strangely cool here thus far, only a few 100 degree days. So much so that our boating season started significantly later than usual, it was just too cool to be enjoyable. Only 83 today, which is borderline chilly when wet on a boat.

Wow...we'd never be out in a boat then.

I must admit I cannot handle the heat. 75F max is fine by me. Went to Jasper(4hr drive west of us in the mountains) recently and climbed a mountain trail and towards the top trudged through the snow. Along came a series of thunderstorms and a big clap of thunder, a bolt of lightning followed by hail made us hit the deck and put our hiking poles on the ground. I put a head warmer on and my wife put her gloves on.
Now that was cool. Would not and could not do that in winter!

my best friend closed on a house on Friday. We have been moving all weekend.

I want to fill the bath tub up with ice and soak! The heat is absolutely brutal out there. I think I pissed orange Gatorade last night...

Spring has given up in PDX too. Stopped raining, reached about 90 yesterday, when I took my son on a 50 mile ride. For us, that's hot. But it'll usually break 100 at some point in the summer.

I'm the complete opposite. 75F is the minimum I can handle.. I see people wearing shorts when its 70 or below. No way I could do that..

108F in Jersey Village yesterday.

And went to Galveston for the weekend and it hovered around 100F down there, the Apple Cider and the sea breeze helped though!

It is normally just as hot here but look at this. This was at 7:30 this morning.

I washed all three of the cars this morning. I am loving it.

I am sure it will be triple digits soon.

It hit 108 here yesterday. We started our bicycle training earlier than normal and cut it to 40 miles. It was over 90F by 11AM when we ended our ride.

Hugh, no humidity when it is this hot.

The relative humidity may dip down to 40% when is that hot, but the dew point was still in the mid 70s which still feels miserable.

We got lucky today, the dew point was in the low to mid 60s, so it was better. It didn't hurt that it only got up to 100 too.

One thing I like about where I live is that it cools down to the high 60s in the middle of the night in the Summer, most of the time; even though it was 107 today. Its 80 here right now, but will be at least ten degrees cooler in another hour or two.

Our lows lately have been in the mid 70s. In July and August, lows between 80 and 85 are not unusual. Right now, midnight, it's 81°. We apparently have a cold front coming through because our highs are going to dip back down to the mid to low 90s for the next week or so.
