They are Casting Broad Nets

1. The NSA using a single FISA secret court search warrant to collect all internet and telephone traffic got a lot of press. Send your thank you notes to Snowden c/o Russian airport...

2. Less press has been given to the USPS collecting and saving the outside writing on ALL letters and packages mailed.

3. But there's more: Police are using digital cameras and scanners to photograph many millions of license plates on cars all over the roads, highways, and parking lots (not to mention in your driveway) all over the US. And... they are saving all those data.

You can't hide from cops with license-plate scanners

The only way to fix it is to brush it all away.

I think the "big picture" that people don't see is that the NSA is merely a customer for all of the data that is already being collected by all of these various companies (Verizon, AT&T, Facebook, credit agencies, etc, etc, etc). Nobody seems to have a problem with private companies collecting and aggregating all of this data and offering it for sale, they're just upset about this one particular customer.

They can collect all my info. I started carrying a cell phone in 1989 so it's not like I don't have a tracking device in my pocket. If it helps catch bad guys, I'm all for it.

Randy:

Turns out NSA phone monitoring and warrantless data collection was set up in February/March 2001. So it's been going on a lot longer than (some) folks suspected.

very very much depends on who gets to say who is a bad guy

Was Michael Hastings' Car Hacked? Richard Clarke Says It's Possible

CONSIDERING WHO HE WAS AND WHAT HE WAS UP TO michael hastings

[spying on the spys]

I think it is very possible and very likely ''they'' did him in

big brother is watching
but big brother does not like to be watched

even if the FBI was not [ as they said] ''others'' will can and did do it

btw the gov is subbing out lots of the watching
so sure the gov can say we know nothing about this
but private contractors working on secrete projects can do it

as ever, who watches the watchers ?
that is why wiki-leaks, anonymous, snowden ect are important to our freedoms

so are you supporting killing journalists ?

Indeed, unless you are willing to throw out your cell-phone, Internet, medical insurance, and credit card/mortgage (all of which have some or all of your info already) it is very unlikely you will live any kind on private life.

I'm not big on the mountain man thing, sounds kind of lonely... I'm thinking more of a commune... but not like one of those kooky cult communes... a commune with a race track and a barn with lifts and tools to work on the cars... a firing range... a recording studio... and of course a brewery and winery... and no communal sex, I'm not sharing my women with your weirdos!

you missed the point - the state's photo'ing of your plates all the time gives them date/time/location data on your movements - even in your own driveway (private property)

i.e. they can trace you in while you're in your car

and maybe cause your car to crash killing you
if ''they'' donot like you or something you did, may do, ect

I have a far bigger fear of that kind of action
then simply tracking or picture taking
