[QUOTE=J P Stein;7671524]I'm sure any "well set up Porsche" would embarrass this beastie. Maybe, maybe not. In about 1979 I showed up at a local solo 1 event with my 1964 Corvair (Monza spyder ) the car had a turbo engine , ltd slip axle and lowered stiffer suspension than a regular Corvair but was competely bone stock The car was catagorized as a 6 cyl under 100 inch wheelbase . Car took best time of the day . Other faster cars were handicapped for modifications. I was all set to start towing it to regional events when I got a call saying I was being re assigned a class . So instead of competing against 6 cyl Mustangs and v8 cars over 100 inch WB i was now in the same class as a Lotus elan , a Corvette and a 911. The regional commitee never expected a Spyder to show up since there were only a handful made and in 1979 you couldn,t give one away if you had one. My daily driver (at the time) 1977 930 wouldn,t have done any better, and would have been handicapped because of it,s high performance pedigree. My 1972 911 would have beaten the 930 because it had instant torque compared to the 930 . short tracks like an autocross favour cars today like a Honda civic longer tracks are where the 930 would shine. My 2012 Boss 302 Mustang would probably outrun them both, but at the end of the day it,s still only a Mustang and the 911 is still only a Porsche. That,s why I have them both and enjoy them both.
