This is exactly true. I've seen the cars they've built at SEMA and barrett jackson. The build quality is really good for being slapped together in a week. But when compared to any other car who's owner has put some time and care into the build, its horrendous.

I dig watching FnL, StreetOutlaws,etc.

What I don't see a need for is Courtney having to be inserted between commercials and between shows on MAVTV or Spike. I think she has a pretty good automotive background but you wouldn't know from what she says.

I like girls but just get to the frikkin' cars already. I

There was a thread on here some time back where it was mentioned that, after the big reveal, the Overhaulin' cars are shuttled over to a second shop that attends to many of the mechanical details that were skipped over during the original 'mad dash' build.
One thing I do like about Foose's show is that there's no screaming matches or throwing stuff around like you see on many similar shows. Confrontation seems to be the main theme to almost all 'reality' shows...not just the car-oriented ones. Seems odd to me, but I guess that's what racks up the ratings
Wheeler Dealers brings cars back to more-or-less stock condition without any phony drama, and Chasing Classic Cars is all about the cars...not the personalities.

Overhaulin................

A lot of the cars/trucks they do, I don't particularly care for. However, they have done a couple of Mustangs and Fairlanes that I would drive in a heartbeat! I also liked what they did with the Lotus Europa, Sunbeam Tiger and the 356 Porsche. Like so much seen in the world today, this show is very subjective. If you like it, fine. If you don't like it, that's fine also. At least I don't have to watch "Say yes to the dress" or "Buying the Beach", etc.

Then there's this....

Quote:
hello to all who are supporting us on this site. i am chris the owner of the 442 done on overhaulin. we have been laying low lately because this whole situation has been very stressful to both of us , espeacily my wife. she still has second thoughts about whether this was the right thing to do or not, considering the history of my car. i have had it since i was 15, my grandparents bought it new in 68,gave it to me for my 16th birthday, therefore its my first car. she knows how much it means to me. anyway, to clear up the info on the car & the show. i removed the original block(455 block bored 400 inches) & installed a block already bored 455 inches. it saved me time & money back then but i kept the original block. that was done in 84. the new motor was not too crazy but it was built right & it ran great!!! the people on the show took it to a parking lot & did donuts in it , then drove it on the freeway(which is something my wife told them not to do in the application & on the phone the day they took it),which led to the car overheating. then they dynoed the car, the numbers were lower than they were when i had it dynoed only a year ago to get the carb jetted right. after that, they power washed the engine compartment to prep it for paint & allowed water to enter the oiling system(how much water i'll never know). then when they tried to start the car after paint ,some 3 days later, they fried the the pertronics in the distributor. they replaced that, the car started for the show, then they took it to the shop for "safety inspection" before releasing the car to me almost a month later. they installed a nitrious system which is not set up properly, they gave me the car back with the gen light on, 20 lbs. of air in the tires, no back up lights, no gear indicater etc. etc. etc. some safety inspection huh! after trying to contact the producers through the "proper channels" & getting no returns our patients began to run out.................
Foose is all hat and no cattle IMO. And I doubt he's anywhere near as generous as some people think. Anyone can slam a car throw on oversized chrome wheels and apply two toned purple metalflake.

Foose is the real deal designer. If you look at his builds for Riddler award cars he does know his stuff. Those cars take a year or sometime two to get done.

Overhauling is just TV drama. They do a lot of work in a short amount of time and corners have to get cut.

The old Bronco they did on the show was one of my favorites. They don't do a tart job on ALL the cars they do.

I emphatically agree with all of the criticisms of Overhaulin' & Foose Designs. Chip Foose may be a real designer, but the show has become formulaic design-wise.

(Disclaimer: I respect a great restored classic far, far more than a resto-mod.)

From what I've seen, Kindig-It design (Salt Lake City, UT) as shown on the Velocity Channel show "B*tchin' Rides" has done some very nice work without going too far over the top and without always resorting to the cliché huge blingy rims that Foose puts on everything.

But if you want to watch a VERY good program that focus on the cars (and bikes), watch Jay Leno's Garage:
Jay Leno

The host has made the point several times that good work isn't done quickly, that the "restoration/modification" shows on TV are faked and stupid. And I agree.

Graveyard Cars does some quality work. Nothing custom about it though.

Is Jay Leno now hosting an actual car-oriented TV show, or is it all on the 'net like always at jaylenosgarage.com? If it's on TV, what's the schedule?
